Hello

I'm currently in the process of deciding which sat package to get but wondering if there are any picture delays (even a 1 or 2 second difference) between certain sports channels when showing english footy, ie super sports vs sky sports?

Thanks

In general, there is always a delay when the same channel is being transmitted on the same satellite or on different satellites.
I noticed a delay in BBC World on Hot Bird 13E from three different providers.

As for your specific question ie super sports vs sky sports, I have a feeling that there is. Since I can't receive Sky Sports, I hope someone else will give an accurate answer with the measured time delay.

Are you thinking of using satellites to try a new method based on the "The Sting" film ? :)

Haha! Not quite but I do bet in-running so I need a channel with the least amount of time delay.

In that case you need the diect feeds on the first downlink from the broadcaster. Some of the channels can be anything up to 3 seconds behind others - as can be clearly demonstrated with RTL & ITV for the F1 coverage.

The problem is that by the time you have factored in satellite hops, delays in framestores digital encoding and decoding, digital encryption and decryption etc etc, you have all sorts of minor delays building up.

Many of the geegee feeds are now encrypted so you may well need the SIS package - about £10k a year last I heard.

I do understand there will be certain delays, just need confirming which channels have the least delays (super sports/ART vs sky sports for example)?

With regards to footy, it is my believe that betfair uses the same feeds as us and all I need is to be using the same feed as them. For example, if say the same prem league match was on both super sports and sky, I want to be using the channel with the least amount of delay (the very same channel betfair will use).

Once more thing, does super sports have english comms and which is best for showing the most live footy, this or ART?

art don't the have rights to show premiership football anymore, they lost out to showtime because of them not controlling the distribution of smartcards which too many got into the uk, well thats the reason why many think art lost the rights.

yes english commentary on digitalb supersports 16east and also on nova supersport 13east i believe.

if you like french, german and italian football then digitalb might be the best option as they show quite alot of those leagues

a 12 month subscription can be bought for around £160 excluding any receiver or extra dish etc you may need to receive the channels
