how are they obsolete if they can receive this message, and therefore DVB-S2?
Looking from a distance (Spain) and not knowing what they have now.
It's clear that the new 4K receiver with 8 tuners, most likely FBC, will offer a lot of flexibility up to DVB-S2X (I hope, since we also have the first versions of DVB-S2 with 8 tuners), and being 4K, it supports HEVC and then HD in H265.
In addition to having an IPTV connection for more options.
The FBC tuners represent an increase of €80; I don't know the actual factory price, but it's the cheapest solution for having 8 tuners.
Offering a lot of flexibility in community installations (upgraded to unicable), as well as in individual installations, with a single cable, you can tune 8 channels/frequencies of any band and polarity.
The old receivers are DVB-S2 and H264; by changing the receiver, the advantages and savings on the satellite are very significant.
They can achieve a 51% transmission savings for similar apparent quality.
If it supports PCMCIA and also has standard readers, they already have a great future ahead.
Time will tell.

Esta claro que el nuevo receptor 4K con 8 tuner, lo mas seguro son FBC, darán mucho juego hasta DVB-S2X (espero, ya que también tenemos DVB-S2 de las primeras versiones con 8 tuner) y al ser 4K, admite HEVC y luego HD en H265.
Aparte de tener conexión IPTV para mas opciones.
