Astra 1N at 19.2E

I'm not in Finland at the moment so anyone in the north east care to comment on last night's transponder moves to 1N?
 
Full reception of 19.2E for the first time ever here in Greece (with small and medium sized dishes), since 1988 when Astra 1A was launched!

Btw, is 10995H with the H.265 tests of SES active? It seems it has not moved yet...

10891H was the weakest transponder on the 2C. Now it doubled in strength.
 
All well here after all the moves. Apart from weaker signal from anything moved to 1N. But 1N decent enough reception (some weather margin gone, and drops off above 12552v) on 60cm.

I did some measurements last Saturday with a computer card. Before that I had made a scan in Jyly 2013 in 19.2E. I took the beam information from flysat, so I'm not sure if it is up to date. e.g. 11656V is as weak as other 1N transponders and clearly weaker than other 1M Wide beam transponders.

All stuff in the excel file (zipped) and in the pdf are three graphs comparing before and after 1N with 110cm dish and current situation with a 80 cm dish. I can receive all transponders even with the 80 cm dish, but there is hardly any weather reserve in the 12,5 GHz 1N transponders.

Crazycat's blindscan software used for measurements, generates transponder list with RF-level and SNR information.

Location Helsinki, Finland

Satellite beam abbreviations. 1KR, 1L and 1N has only one beam, 1M has Europe (1ME) and Wide beam (1MW). Transponder's beam information is from flysat.com.

Legend:
Orange circle, measurements from Jyly 17th, 2013 with 110 cm dish. At that time there were two transponders that are not used today and seven new ones started after that (value zero).

Blue diamond and red square are measurents from Saturday March 22nd, 2014.

Green X is the quasi error free limit for picture without errors. SNR must be equal or bigger for a certain FEC and modulation to have an error free picture. Calculated from a CNR table with a constant rolloff 0.35 (range 0.2-0.35). There are 108 transponders, 3 has rolloff 0.2, 8 has rolloff 0.25 and the rest 97 has 0.35. SNR = CNR + rolloff.

The 80 cm and 110 cm graphs have measurements through balcony glazing (l) or without them (eil). There is attenuation through glazing. If the blind scan program could not find a transponder (not in the list), I gave them value zero. I can not receive all tranponders through glazing at the moment. Before 1N I was able to receive all through glazing even in heavy rain with the 80 cm dish.

Thanks for the detailed report! It's interesting you get pretty good reception from both polarities through the glass. When I look through the glass I lose lock on all the vertical transponders on all satellites except one strong one on Astra 4A. Horizontal is down a little like your readings but generally not really a problem for most transponders. When I asked Lumon if they could supply non-polarised glass they ignored me.

So it looks like tp35 10994H did not move to 1N judging by your signal readings.

tp30 11656V is interesting, that was strong for me last week. As you say it looks like 1N now.

My glass is over 20 years old, maybe 25. Yours might have some kind of coating. I have to watch out if I move. Have you tried adjusting skew to get the verticals and lose horizontals?

It is obvious that there will be more attenuation when frequency increases. But weak transponders have more attenuation through glass than strong ones. One can see it comparing same transponder in 80 cm and 110 cm dish. Here is a graph of low band.

My glass is only about 8 years old. I guess it's polarised to keep some of the sun out but it still gets pretty hot. I remember someone on this forum said their glass blocked all satellite transmissions, so I guess I'm lucky I can get the horizontals at least... Of course I have another problem that my dish looks through the glass at a steep angle as the balcony is west facing.

I have tried skewing the LNB but I only get horizontals.
