I for one was glad Barcelona did not go through, I thought they were extremely lucky to get to the final last year. But everybody seems to go all wet whenever Barccccccelona is mentioned, like a teenage girl confronted with the latest boyband lead singer. But the same as with boybands, where the singer turns out to be not exactly what they thought he is, Barca where shown to be a side that does not know how to defend away from home, and don't seem to be able to beat a 10 man Italian team without any Italians playing. I do think they are a good team, and they do have one of the best footballers playing for them - but in the last years Manchester, Chelsea and Inter showed that you can win against them. And before anyone says "oh, they destroyed Arsenal" - well, Chelsea and United also destroyed Arsenal, they are not an example of a team able to compete with the real heavyweights of the top leagues yet.
The fact is that they are playing in a two team league, and that makes them look better than they are. In a way, a little bit like Celtic and Rangers.
And finally: Barcelona were also exposed with their blatant cheating and gracelessness in defeat. The replays showing how he peeked through his fingers to see if the ref is looking at him are a disgrace. Not that Italian teams do not have players playacting, or even British teams, but Barcelona was supposed to be this pure footballing side. Bollox. What about the goalkeeper trying to wrestle Mourinho celebrating with his away fans? Idiotic. And finally turning on the sprinklers on the Inter players is one of the worst cases of childish and classless behaviour I have ever seen.
I know that here are fierce rivalries in the game, for instance there is no love lost between United and Liverpool, but still I cannot think that such incidents would ever happen.
