My Satellite Setup
A laptop and err..... Nothing else.

I am a complete beginner when it comes to satellites, but I am interested in getting the gear and watching football. I could do with some advice on what equipment to buy, etc. From what I have read, I will need;

  • A Motorized Satellite dish
  • A receiver box (I have no idea which type though)
  • A Dragon/Matrix CAM
Is there anything else I need or will the above do?

Many Thanks

Stefan

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Oman TV was showing a match earlier on today free to air so there really is little need to complicate things by motorising and cards/cams. Many of the north African channels have similar output.

Forget a Dragon, or Matrix, cam, these are very old and of little use now.

First consider where you need to site your dish, as this will probably affect how large a dish you might want, if you can site it at ground level, and have an open, south facing, garden, then installation, and maintenance, will be a lot easier.

As for a choice of receiver there are far too many to mention, I suggest you do a lot of reading, through the various sections of the forum, and decide what you require.

It also depends how much time and effort you are willing to invest. If you are interested in getting into it, and know your way around a computer then a linux receiver might be the thing to have. If you just want football without the time, then you need a SKY receiver and a valid subscription :)
