I am certain whether this is the right section for this, but there is interesting info from the BBC
_http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2011/08/red_button_dsat_astra.html

The BBC are about to close TP 12.441 (I thought they would just shift it onto 1N...nope) and reduce their "red button" interactive service.
They also reshuffle TP 11.954 and put BBC News, Parliament and Alba onto their 2D transponders. So everybody who could get these channels via the wider beams now has to rely on 2D for them too.
Some of the red button streams will move to 11.954 - which should stay the same as they say the tuning details wont change.

not good news for SD bitrates I guess.

Its all about cutting costs - the post says so.

As you may have read, the BBC Trust’s review of the BBC Red Button service, published in November 2010, challenged the BBC to reduce the cost of the Red Button service, particularly its distribution costs. The Review also highlighted the disparity in the number of video streams offered to satellite and cable viewers compared with terrestrial viewers.

Sales of free to air receivers should increase, as they can access the stream directly, without the need of a BBC channels, red button 3001 like you do on sky or freesat boxes,

Yes,providing the tp stays on widebeam,i.e. not switched to Astra 1N spot beam.Whilst people who can't get 2D won't be able to access the streams with a sky or freesat box due to the lack of a bbc channel to start the interactive application with

It is bad news both for Sports and News lovers. On the bright side, a nice empty TP on the south beam increases the chance of new subscription HD channels (UKTV ?) being available to expats.

19th & 26th, that's a strange coincidence. Seems to coincide with 1N being brought online. Is 2D going to be decommissioned and replaced by 1N, as well as 1N filling the 10950-11200 slot?

Due to the launch delay its unlikely 1N is going to be operational at 28E much before mid October.

It will happen sometime this week:

Phase 1: Move BBC News, BBC Parliament and BBC ALBA off DSat7 (Astra transponder 13)
• BBC News will move to DSat2 (Astra transponder 47)
• BBC Parliament will move to DSat5 (Astra transponder 46)
• BBC ALBA will move to DSat6 (Astra transponder 48)

This phase will occur during the week commencing 19 September 2011.

I think they will insert the channels into the 2D transponders tommorrow, and then broadcast them parallelly for a few days, so viewers can retune or the automatic platform boxes can update their PID lists.
Some time during the week the channels will then leave the old transponders. That's how they did it when they moved the channels around in 2003.

And this really seems to have nothing to do with 1N, which is still far away from 28East...
