Not sure if this has already been discussed here - but I just saw the last 20 minutes of the programme "How To Build... a Satellite" on BBC Two, and it looks like the documentary in which they explained how, well, a satellite is built and launched into space, was about the Astra 1N satellite. They said it was launched on August 6, 2011, after weeks of delay, so it must be 1N.

Has anybody else watched this documentary? It's also available on the BBC iPlayer, which sadly I can't access here in Germany... )(-red

BBC i player is geo blocked to users abroad. I access i player using a VPN which gives you a UK Ip address... be careful there are plenty of rip off merchants selling VPN services...

Just as a side note BBC iplayer is extending its services to Central Europe and US with the rest of Europe to follow so soon you wont need a VPN although there will be a monthly charge for iplayer and it will only be a catch-up service.

And so far it looks like it'll also be very limited to what they want to sell you overseas, reflecting what's available on their international channels...

Thank each one of you for now I understand why I can not access media links from the BBC.I hope that in near future iPlayer no longer be restricted only for BBC subscribers and reach every corner of Europe.I understand up to a point that a satellite beam has coverage only for UK{Astra 2D & 1N} but programs broadcast on the internet should be free as are the BBC radio!Or so I want to be...If it is now free to go to every country in Europe,I do not see why there are restrictions in the virtual world!? :)Information and culture should not have borders,as you all know!

Its rights issues again. Theres no chance of the uk version of the BBCi player becoming generally available worldwide.

Either get a uk vpn or make do with the subscription version thats being launched soon.
