hi, i have a spare gibertini 1.25m solid dish with ground mount and i was wondering is it worth my while trying to get a cheap c-band lnb and feedhorn to see whats out there? my l.o.s. is resricted to maybe 10e to 30w at a push. my location is north-west uk, regards mdt

Hi MDT ...
the simple answer is yes ..
you will get something if you set it up accurately ..
Don't expect miracles on a 1.2 ...but 40 and 20East should be doable ..also concentrate on 5W ...
fwiw ..dont buy a cheapy lnb ..
spend a little more and go for a mid range lnb
about 20 > 30 quid ..
This will improve your chances ..and lessen your dissapointment ..
You might even be able to get a couple of transponders from the weaker birds ..
VOA on 27 west ..is a possibility ..
Assuming your dish is an offset ..then you will need to buy and possibly make a bracket for an offset feed ...
you'll get something with the flat scalar feed usually supplied ...but you are restricting your chances of success ..without a suitable feed.

Good luck ..and let us know of any success..

i already have one of those cheap c-band lnb,s from china and have seen the galaxy marketing kit type scalar ring and bracket on e*** for £20 but it seems to be for a dish similar to a old lenson heath type with the squarish end with 1 hole for the bolt. has any member on here used a gibertini dish for c-band experiments? i have a spare gibertini feedhorn for my dish.. can this not be put to use with some sort of mod and flange lnb? regards mdt

hi - mdt -
the galaxy feed works well on the cheap "pauxis " C band l.n.b ,s from china -- what brand is the one you have ?
i had quite a bit of work to make the galaxy holder fit on a 1.2 channel master so that the support arms were not in the way of the feed -- but the end result worked ok -- see pic below
not sure what the gibertini feed looks like - if its for k/u its probably too small for C band -- can you post a picture ?

ah - i see --
i think the k/u feed will be too small to be of use -----
i would get the galaxy feed and holder , and make a simple arrangement for testing on your dish - similar to the pics below - you just need to be as close to the original k/u position as possible , - you could cut a small piece off the end of your feedarm to help with this - as marked in one of the pics

i,m going to put this l.n.b. and feed back on my 1.2 channel master today and see just how many sats i can get with it -- :)

regards ---

hi - mdt -

i,v been checking out just what i can get on a 1.2 metre channel master in C band - recently -
and have listed below my findings between - 3 east and 27.5 west - re your restricted view
i used a pauxis l.n.b. and a galaxy conical feed , and used my "vipersan" style dielectric plate -
the receiver was my Vantage 22x standard def .
my dish is sited behind a pitched roof and loses a small amount of signal because of this --
your 125 gibertini should do better i think -- :)

i also received from --

40 East - a couple of t.p,s but the signal was considerably reduced by the roof in front of the dish
40 West - better results here but -- roof issues again
34.5 West - 1 transponder
20 East - best result- all c band transponders from here - :)
