HI

Just received the above .. acquired from a dealer in Spain, but am disappointed with the quality and design of the polar mount. It is very badly galvanized and all screws and nuts are steel. Some parts of the mount are already corroded.

I suspect that the polar mount is not made by Andrews, but by the local dealer as Andrews only supply this dish with an Az/El mount.

I have dismantled everything and will have a decent galvanizing job done plus substitute all screws and nuts with stainless steel ones.

I include a pic of the mount I received and would like to know what kind of polar mounts others have for this dish, and if the same as this one, has anyone encountered any problems.

Best Regards

PS. VERY happy with the dish :-sugar

Andrew have not supplied this dish for years.
Its definitely a home made job. the metal should be galvanised in zinc if its a real Channel Master

Andrew took over the production tools several years ago so the dish they offer, Type 183 i beleive the model name is for the normal model.

Give us pic of the front of the dish also and we can tell, maybe they gave you a clone.

Polarmount is not Andrew as they don't make any, they did to the old Channel Master but that is ages ago...

Hi Likvid.

Haven't had a chance to take a pic yet. But is there anything in particular I should be looking for?
On the front it has the Andrew Logo and on the back there is an engraving with the Mold Number, Type 180 and some other info. Looks pretty genuine to me. I'll post a pic asap.

Cheers

HI

I have finally started setting this dish up but just when I thought I had everything figured out, something is not quite right :-doh!

This is what have done:

My Location = 32.63N /16.85W.

From _http://www.satsig.net/ssazelm.htm I obtained the Polar mount main axis angle (elevation angle) = 33.29 which I applied to angle A.

For declination I calculated the elevation of the closest south sat for my location (Telstar12 15W) minus the dish offset. ie. 51.97 - 23 = 28.97 and applied that to angle B.

By turning the whole mount on the pole I am only able to receive 30W. There is obviously something very wrong with my calculations :confused

Can anyone see where I am going wrong?

Cheers

there are many channel master 1.8 dishes but with AZ/El mount
would you please owners of channel master 1.8 original polar mount measure and post dimensions marked In red - pivot length a, declination bracket length b, c, angle between b and c, and diameters of bolts d1 and d2
BTW what type of bearings are used - are they same as channel master polar mount 1.2
regards

Hi -
A - 550 mm
B - 240 mm
C - 175 mm
Angle between B and C - a fraction over 150 degrees
The bolts i,m sure are the old 1/2 inch rather than a metric size i can be more exact about this if you wish.
(could not find the precise measuring tool this morning l.o.l.)
The bearings look like the bronze bush type insert, same style as the 1.2.

note from the pics that the bar that the declination bracket fastens to does not sit flush with the dish but is itself angled --- likewise the bar that the bracket for bolt D2 is fastened to .... do you want me to take a measurement there?
