Anyone can help me how to Add SAA7240HS in JKEYS.DEF

I dont have DEEP Knowledge about this ..

Hope anyone can do this for me ...

Well jdef is something to do with jtagging. However as our friend admits

"I dont have DEEP Knowledge about this "

I would advise him to leave well alone. Jtagging is hazardous unless you know exactly what you are doing!

It's not that hard actually. I have repaired a lot of receivers this way.

Most receivers have a standard JTAG connector. If you get one of the standard JTAG interfaces, which are cheap and sold by most internet satellite shops, chances are that you can just plug it into the receiver's JTAG connector.

For most receiver's you will already find a preconfigured jkeys.def and pictures showing the right position of the connector.

If you don't find the right jkeys.def for your kind of flash memory, but your receiver is built around an ST20 or similar processor, you still have good chances of getting it done.

You will need to search the right datasheet for your flash memory and read the section about the memory bank layout. It is this information that you need to enter into jkeys.def.

The rest of the proceedure is more or less standard and has been described in many documentes floating in the internet.

Finally: one cannot actually break anything with a JTAG-interface, as the problem already is a bad flash on the flash chip! As long as one does not make a short or use the JTAG interface thw wrong way around, the best that can happen is that one deletes all memory banks without being able to restore the contents.

By the way: you need a working copy of the bootloader banks! It is not enough to download a firmware or bootloader from the manufacturer, as those files are compressed. You need the actual content of the flash. That's why one should always backup the flash before upgrading the firmware.

To read the contents of a flash, no special information about the flash is necessary, as long as the receiver has a ST20 or similar processor.

Yes but you know what you are doing :D

Someone with already admitted minimal technical knowledge should not be bu99ering around inside his receiver

thank you for the advice ... but I have JTAG already some IRD/BOX with the Flash already done or listed already in JKEY ..

My problem now is How to add FLASH Definition in JKEY.DEF

My mean in "I dont have DEEP Knowledge about this " in adding flash in JKEY.DEF

Hi,

I have done some research on the internet, but did not found anything.

Digitalworld does not provide any firmware for this model (or at least the download did not work for me) and I did not find anything about JTAG related to this receiver, except on the Philips datasheet.

I have my doubts that you will find an easy solution, as the SAA7240HS is the processor of your PCB. It is not an ST20, so it won't work, in my humble opinion, with JKEYS (which explains why you dod not get any answer in any of the forums you posted your question)!

Even if it would work with JKEYS, in order to program the flash, you need to find the datasheet of the flash memory. The jkeys.def file is essentially used to describe the layout of the banks on the flash IC. That, however should be easier to do.

Finally, you need two receivers: the broken one and a good one. You would need to read out the bootmanager (at least) of the good one, to program the broken one.

Then you could upload the firmware the normal way again.
