Ooh matron! Saucy Carry On icons Sid James and Hattie Jacques are set to feature on T-shirts, pyjamas and underwear as part of a huge revival of the comedies. Talks are even under way for a range of Carry On condoms in a merchandising blitz for the well-loved movie series - 45 years after it began. Brand owner Carlton International believes the launch of the ribald range - to tie in with special edition DVDs - will rival the success of one of its other hits, Thunderbirds. Five of the films - Carry On Up The Khyber, Carry On Girls, Carry On Behind, Carry On thingy and Carry On Emmanuelle - are being released on DVD in two weeks time. A further eight, including Carry On Camping, will be out in July. Other stars who will feature in merchandising alongside Jacques and James include Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey and Barbara Windsor - currently taking a break from her role in EastEnders because of illness. Their faces will also feature on items such as talking fridge magnets, money boxes and nodding figurines. Gerry Donohoe, managing director of Carlton's consumer division, said: "What we are seeing is a new generation going mad for the unique Carry On brand of innuendo-filled camp humour. "Teenagers and twentysomethings, who are seeing these films for the first time, just seem to love the harmless, saucy fun and want to know more about them. "You could say we were making big advances on the Generation Y-front."
