Looking to get rid of my Yamaha RX-V581 surround system. Never been able to have the ideal set up with the layout of my living room.
My TV is a Sony 55” XR-55A80J (Brava VH2) that does give some thump to certain scenes with its built in speakers

Thinking of replacing the AVR with a Soundbar one of the cheaper makes and models i have seen are Hisense AX5100 5.1ch / Majority Everest / Ultimea Poseidon D60 / Nova S80
All these models have rear speakers would be handy as the living room gets a lot of sound from the kitchen

Anyone with any suggestions if any of these would be a good set up with the TV Dolby Atmos and any other sound formats?
My viewing is main channels BBC/ITV,CH4,CH5 HD, I players and Netflix
Rarely watch anything on Blu-ray

In what way is the current Yamaha setup not ideal? I can't offer an opinion on the mentioned sound bars but wherever you get it from, make sure you can return it if it isn't an improvement on what you've already got.

Does thye Yamaha have the ability to 'fill the room' when listening to something played into it other than the television ?

Hi
One of the reasons, got a basic Tv stand rather than a unit - having bit of a clear out and downsizing. The Yamaha was purchased as used not sure if it was correctly set up.
It's not a definite yet just thought of a change

Thanks for your reply

Perhaps it is the speakers (placement or the size).

Are they matched impedance to the amplifier ?

Check all the speakers are wired correctly - positive to positive & negative to negative. If any of these are mixed up you can end up with one speaker cancelling out sound from the others, creating a thin, tinny sound at higher volumes.

I wouldn't change anything, that's a great sound system if configured properly.

You mentioned that the system was purchased as used, did it come with a little funny shaped microphone??? If so did you run the automated sound optimization using it?

If you didn't get the microphone and run the YPAO (Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer) then your not going to get all you can out of that system, I have a Yamaha system, I ran the YPAO after setup and have been very pleased with the sound.

If you don't have the little microphone it can still be purchased, once you get it all you do is connect it to the receiver and set the microphone in the center of the room at a normal ear height when sitting, (I used a camera tripod) then follow the directions in section 9 of your users manual, leave the room.

When done it should go back to a normal state, if something was found wrong (out of phase wiring) it will display error codes on the TV.

If you didn't get a manual with the system then here is a link to download one....https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/3/794303/RX-V581_Manual_English.pdf
