Im thinking of having a tinker with C-band. Im not expecting much success as the biggest dish I have available is only 1m, but you never know.

Anyone know any cheap C-band lnb's for a 1m offset dish?

Must be cheap as this is just to see if I can get anything!

Have a couple of 20k ones left over from earlier days but they are heavy buggers.

The last 15/16 K unit I put into a system was about a quarter of the weight and had Gardiner Communications written on the side.

If you are using an offset dish you will find the feed (and the 60mm clamp required) costs more than the LNB.

It might be worth asking a friend travelling to North Africa or the Middle East to put one in their luggage.

(There is also China and Russia but I don't imagine people will be thronging there to buy LNBs! Wherever it comes from, it will probably be made in China anyway. 1.8m+ may be more realistic though.)

There is no chance whatsoever of getting away with a 1.8m dish in the garden :D

I suspected that would be your neighbours limit. :-lan2

That saves on working out what colour of Chinese mesh dish to get, at least 16 colours to choose from. O-no

hi --
these are about as cheap as you will get for a new one --i think ,
*ttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TV-LNBF-Receiver-65dB-C-Band-Polarity-Satellite-/400155324647?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d2b1db0e7

and mine worked - quite well with a "doctorofsat" home made dielectric plate -- you should pick up something from 5 west maybe one or two others with 1 metre-- DW-TV Africa 3727 R 29950 7/8 is possible with 1 metre channel master for sure as i recall --

edit --just realised - as channel hopper said- the feed would cost more than the l.n.b -- i suppose you could make your own as i think "satcom1 " did ----

Galaxy Marketing is selling the DMX242 with C band conical scalar that will work on a 1 M offset.

Nothing in particular - I just want to have a look to see what I can find - just like when I ran off with my parents redundant Sky analogue kit - the Arabic channels on 16E were fabulous the first time I saw them :D

Even the missus was impressed - although as I had everything set up in the garden she wasnt so thrilled with having to stand up outside the back door on a chilly winters day :-rofl2

I find turning off the heating indoors a few hours beforehand allows the wife to acclimatise......

have a go its great fun

cheapo plaxus 18deg lnb ws1 conical scaler and oversize lnb bracket

my televes 1m did better than the cm 1.2 as its a damn site easier to mount the lnb on the televes using the oversize mount and wooden wedges (pegs)
got dozen or so from 40e and a couple from 5w
"""""upgrading """" to the fortec 1.8 only gained 1tp from thor
nowt else at my location but fun none the less

forget anything that is hemi footprint go for the spots

The cheap C-band LNBs available on eBay do work, although they're designed for linear polarisation - a dielectric plate will convert them to circular polarisation though not very efficiently.

To use with my Triax TD110 I made a conical feed-horn from tinplate, "designed" empirically (i.e. guesswork), but it certainly works after a fashion, though I expect that proper elliptical scalar rings would improve performance.

I got good results from BadrC when it was still active, including the analogue channels, but there doesn't seem to be so much high power C-band around these days. 4158R at 5W is quite a strong transponder but for an initial experiment 3675R at 40E is probably the strongest C-band signal in the UK. (4196L on Arabsat 2B used to have that distinction but the advent of Arabsat 5A put an end to it)
