The latter holds prisoner the Trojan Ilia, daughter of King Priam, whom he saved from death. The two have fallen in love, much to the despair of Electra, who dreams of conquering the heart of the young prince. Caught in a fierce storm, Idomeneus promises the god Neptune that he will sacrifice the first man he sees on land if he escapes the shipwreck. When he arrives safely, it is Idamante, his own son, who comes forward to welcome him... </p><p><strong>Meilleurs auspices </strong></p><p>Considéré comme le premier des opéras de la maturité de Mozart, <em>Idoménée, roi de Crète</em> est né sous les meilleurs auspices. Pour sa création, en 1781 au Théâtre Cuvilliés de Munich, le compositeur autrichien bénéficie d’une pléiade d’interprètes hors pair : le meilleur orchestre du monde, dit-on alors, mais aussi des chanteurs, un chœur et des danseurs de ballet exceptionnels. Pourtant, le premier grand succès lyrique de Mozart – inspiré du mythe antique d’Idoménée, popularisé par une tragédie de Crébillon en 1705 – est loin d’être le plus représenté sur les scènes mondiales. À l’affiche pour la troisième fois seulement du Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, il se dessine comme le rendez-vous immanquable de l'édition 2022.
