Comag PVR2 100 CI: Why do I need to go to installation to get Astra2 every power on?

Hi,

I live in Luxembourg and after having a pretty low-spec digital satellite tuner for a couple of years I upgraded and got a new Comag PVR twin tuner box.

After a fair bit of tweaking of satellite settings, I finally was able to get all the UK channels on Astra2D. They were pre-programmed into the channel list but I had to go to installation->satellites and adjust the settings for Astra until they would display.

However, the problem is that when I go to standby and then turn the box on again, the Astra2D channels won't appear until I go back into 'installation' and fiddle with the settings, then suddenly the signal will come back to life.

Does anyone know how to set it so I don't have to do this everytime I turn on the box? (The Astra sat that shows the german channels doesn't need this).

thanks,
Kevin

Hello

Welcome to the forum colgakn

I note that there is no information in your system details indicating dish size and type of lnb in use here. This could be essential to any diagnosis of your problem for example are you using a quad output lnb to supply the HD stb? if not and you are using splitters this could be your problem.
Please supply details of stb and cabling

Hello,

My setup was actually done by the previous owner of the house, so I'm not really sure of the details of satellite dish size. From taking a quick look it seems that there are 4 lnbs in use using what looks like 1 cable (I know I only have 1 cable available in the TV room).

Another important thing could be that I'm using the box in 'LOOP' mode so that I can record one channel and watch another.

Any help would be great.

You have a 4 way DiSEqC switch - this is what enables four LNBs to end up with only one cable feeding the Receiver suite.

The correct LNB is selected by DiSEqC commands from the Receiver(s) and it seems very likely that you haven't set up these commands correctly in the Comag.

So what you need to do is look carefully at the settings on the original box: I imagine you know which four Satellites it is capable of receiving, so you need to look at the DiSEqC setting for each of those four (Should be something like A,B, C, D or 1, 2, 3, 4) and basically apply the self-same settings to the Comag.

That DiSEqC switching should also happily work for the Comag providing the original box is in Standby.

The problem is that my original box stopped working - this is why I bought the Comag :-)

I have a lot of options for DiSEqC: as you mention, A,B,C,D, DiSEqC 1.2, Usals, Tone A, Tone B

I guess I don't need to worry about any of the motorised settings as I've got 4 lnbs, but I don't know how to make the switch activate the correct LNB by default.

I've tried tweaking these settings and the only one that works is C, however this results in the startup problem.

Right.

Perhaps a few piccies of the dish/LNBs would help us.

Apart from Astra 1 at 19.2E and Astra 2 at 28E, which other Satellites can you get?

Also, I misunderstood about Loop before - I thought you were still using the old Receiver and feeding the new one from the LNB Out of the first, but now see you are only using the Comag and the Loop arrangement is the normal one for getting a reduced PVR service from a single Feed.

ok, I made some progress - I disconnected the loop cable and put the satellite input cable into Input 1. Then I changed the settings on Astra and Astra2 so that they both use Input 1 and not the LOOP setting. When I power on the system, I get pictures on both satellites now. However this means I lose the ability to record one channel while watching another.

Do you have any idea how I could still use the LOOP mode but not have to re-install the Satellite tuner mode each time? (by the way, I noticed that to get the signal to come back you need to change the setting from 1 to 2 to LOOP and then it works)
