I am trying to help a friend out and am having trouble combining two Quatro LNBs, one for Sky the other for French Freeview. I have a nine in eight out multi switch. It feeds four seperate receivers which are either sky or French but not both. Both systems work well when connected to inputs 1-4. When I connect the sky to 1-4 and the french to 6-9 , the french doesn't work and visa versa. I am pretty sure I need a diseqc switch for the second feed but where can I put it to make it work. I don't mind buying more kit, I just want to get the ruddy thing working :confused

Welcome.

You need to enable DiSEqC 1.0 switching on the receiver for the second input feed. Astra28e should be on input 1 as most switches default to this port. The multiswitch will handle DiSEqC control.

The Sky box won't drive a Diseqc switch so would have to be one inputs 1-4 .... the French one needs to have Diseqc to get to the second LNB

I think that this will only work if the $ly LNB is connected to inputs 1-4, the French LNB to inputs 5-8 AND that the French receivers are able to issue Diseqc commands. If you are using $ly's own receivers (DIgibox, $ly + or $ly HD) they definitely can't issue Diseqc commands so the French ones will have to.

The multiswitch already effectively contains a Diseqc switch so another one won't help!

I have edited the title as your terminology is incorrect, the term 'sky freeview' is incorrect and does not exist and will only serve to confuse. Freeview is the terrestrial tv system in the UK. Satellite TV reception that is free to air on 28.2/5 is called Freesat

Thank you everyone for your swift replies. I only received the email notification today?? I understand what you have all told me and it is as I thought. Unfortunately the french box is the same as sky and requires to be on input one!!!! Is it possible to buy a receiver that will receive both satellites and have diseqc switching? If I can, that will solve the problem n'est pas?

Thanks everyone

Unless you want to go the hobbyist's route and buy a Dreambox I don't think so. Even so it's by no means certain that the Dreambox will work with $ly's cards in the very near future as they are rumoured to be about to clamp down very hard on card sharing, which will probably have a knock-on effect on Dreambox usage.

You may have more luck replacing the French receiver with one that has Diseqc control built-in. I belive that the difficult part of TNT par satellite is obtaining the card as it it is only issued with a receiver. Unfortunately I don't know what encryption system they're using so can't help with an alternative receiver - perhaps someone else can help?
