Hi,

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area...

Just had installers who have confirmed the satalite and terrestrial ariel poins in my new build flat are not receiving any signal.
They can't go into the attic to check the connections as not insured.
My mainatance company say they can send someone out to check but will charge £150..
They reckon someone has probably disconnected my connection to get Sky+ working.

Were do I stand on this? If someone has disconnected my connection should I send the bill to them if this is the case?

An increasingly common problem in flats Im afraid. Too many were built with only one feed installed, taking no regards that folk might want Sky+ capability :D

Theres nothing you can do until a specialised contractor checks the distribution system to see if your feed has indeed been disconnected. I say specialised as they need to have the appropiate knowledge IRS type knowledge to start firkling with complicated distribution systems.

I would have thought that the company/person who sold you the flat is responsible for repairing the fault, they have sold it to you with a system in a non-working state. Read your contract.

Yeah - in the distribution system to your flat for starters!

Source a local 'systems installer' yourself to trace the fault. A decent qualified installing company specialising in IRS communal systems should be able to survey/test without charging over the odds. Check with your maintenance company that this would be ok first.

Thread moved to Multi-receiver/TV systems section.

If it's a new build flat, then it is down to the builders to get it going for you, as I'm pretty sure that there will be a working TV and satellite point in the specification.

Knowing the standard of some of the cable connections in apartments, usually done by the sparky's mate, the problem may simply be with the outlet plate connection, but whatever the cause, it is not down to you to pay for it.
