hi,
i was going to get a freesat box but they all seem to be about £100 2nd hand.
So i started looking around to see if i could get a card for my pc.
i have a quad lmb for my sky dish.
can anyone tell me without having to go to a great expence, what are the different cards i need & what i can expect to get from them.
the problem is i like channels like dave on sky but i cann't get it on freesat but it is on sky.
can i pick up freesat & free sky channels as they come from the same satelite.
what extra can i get from it as well.
where is the best place to get info (if not this site).
& lastly do they all have 1 input (could i have 1 dish pointing at one satelite & 1 pointing at another.
my plan is to do away with my sky subs altogether as i dont watch sky movies or the sport channels.
thanks.

Welcome to the forum cookie1003

I do not think I fully understand the question, it would appear that you already have a sky subs,....... in which case take the card out and that is what you will get on freesat, if you want to watch Dave you have two choices keep the basic sky package, or get freeview from your terrestrial aerial.

You can not get anything extra from Astra 2 without paying for it as the encryption system is secure

Please look at the link i posted it will tell you all the avaliable channels on 28.2E without subscription, to unlock more channels you will neeed the conditional access card with a Sky Box or a conditional access card with correct Cam Module.

BBC HD is free only if you have a HD receiver.

Conditional access card: this allows you access to more channels or can unlock them, like a sky card or they are called Smart Cards.

Cam Modules : They Unlock encrypted channels with the correct smart card, there are different Cam modules for different encryptions.

More information on different Cams and conditional access cards __http://www.satellitesuperstore.com/cams.htm

The best way to get a lot of channels without a subscription is by phoning up sky and asking for a freesat card from sky, costs £20 and is a one off payment and you get a lot of free channels, i did it and you get both the freeview channels and freesat too, bargain if you ask me, sky have done it again.

Well the Card actually only gets you Fiver, Five US, their "+1"s Sky Three and maybe one or two others.

All BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Five plus many. many more don't even require a Card and can be obtained with an inexpensive generic DVB-S Receiver or a Freesat Box.

The Sky £20 Card is only of value of you already have a Sky Box.

Without a Card, a Sky Box won't even give you the correct BBC and ITV Regions on 101 and 103, unlike other boxes.

Not to mention the fact that Sky Boxes have no DiSEqC and only permit a very restricted set of Symbol Rates so cannot readily be used off 28 E.

So yes, Sky have done it again - they've made life unnecessarily complicated.

But we're way off topic, as this Thread is really about Satellite PC Cards!
