I have an old sound mixer that has not been used in years, when I went to hook it up to my amp for karaoke all the pots and switches were very noisy, the mixer is unusable in this condition.

I have stripped the main board out and was hoping to spray contact cleaner into all the pots and switches, is this likely to fix them? Can anyone recommend a spray, there are so many to choose from?

I haven't used contact cleaner in years, but always found Electrolube as good as any.

I have some switch cleaner from Maplins, cleaned all my pots on my old Sansui amp, not a crackle to be heard.

Thanks for the quick advice, there is a maplins on the way to work I can call in at. Some of the pots are hidden, is there a usually hole in them to get the spray in?

If there isnt just dribble some down the spindle or in through the solder tags area.

Dont use wd40 - its supposed to dissolve the carbon on the pot surfaces.

An ample dose of 'evaporating cleaner' aka 'contact clean', move the part a dozen times while the stuff is in there, then a minimal dose of 'lubricating cleaner' aka 'contact protect'. As to which brand, no idea what's available around the world. Certainly not use wd40 and those kinds of products.

Am using a needle to get the stuff exactly where it should go, see picture.

We use to use this stuff called "Tweek" back in the 70's, but it was tricky stuff.

I now use this stuff.
