Hi,

What options are there to control a remote motorised satellite dish over the internet? By control, I am referring to having the option to select various satellites and get the motorised dish to move to them.

The only way I can currently think of is to have software such as Prog DVB or Crazy Scan installed on a PC located at the same site as the dish and use this software to control the dish via Diseqc to move to various satellites. The remote PC could be accessed using software such as "PC Anywhere"

The only other options I can think of would be to have a positioner unit at the location of the remote dish that can accept an internet connection via a LAN port and is configured with some type of web interface that allows control of the dish. I dont think that there are any consumer grade positioners capable of this but there are probably commercial grade units that can do this?

Alternatively, some type of serial port control via an RS-422 port might be an option?

An el cheapo Dreambox or any E2 receiver can be controlled via the internet as if you're in front of it. Takes a bit of config but I've done it in the past with good success.

It can also control a Vbox so you can handle any dish remotely.

Thank you for your reply. I had thought about using the WebIF interface on an enigma2 receiver as an option and it should work provided it is configured correctly.

Since creating this topic I have found out that there is a web server add on module that can be connected to a RC2000 dual axis 36 volt positioner. The web server module is connected to by typing the IP address of the module into a web browser on a remote computer. The web browser connects to the web server module which is directly connected to the RC2000 unit allowing azimuth, elevation and polarisation to be controlled remotely over the internet.
