Could I receive 28.2E and 30.0W on a non-motorised dish?

One Sky dish pointing at 28.2E

Hello everyone,

I currently have an 80cm Sky dish and receive FTA channels from 28.2E. But I would like to get the TDT Spanish freesat channels from Hispasat 30.0W as well.

Very basic question alert!

Would it be possible to attach two LNBs to the one Sky dish and that way get channels from both 28.2E and 30.0W? I don't want a motorised dish set up.

Or would I have no choice but to either have a motorised dish or two dishes?

Thank you!

Those satellites are too far apart to receive on a Sky dish, you'll need two dishes or a motor.

OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

The two satellites you want are 58.2 degrees apart, you would need a very large dish like the wave frontier T90, but it only has a beamwidth of 40 degrees.

So two dishes or a motor would be needed.

Just flicking through terrestrial and Channel 4 (+1) was frozen for a couple of minutes.

I managed to do it many years ago with a much larger Raven dish but wouldn't try that again nowadays - 2 dishes are the way to go. A basic Sky Zone 2 dish (or even a Zone 1 dish at a push) & standard Sky LNB will bring in most of the stronger channels on 30W, and will be pretty easy to set up providing you have line-of-sight that satellite (I'm in S.E. England, and that's what I have and can use if required, although I don't do it often as I'm not that interested in channels on that sat).

OTOH, you won't manage it with 2 LNBs on a Zone 2 dish or a standard 80cm one.

The satlex calculator for the T90 seems to allow it, even from 30E to 35 W for position 53North, I just checked, with rail positions about 33.5 left and right.
But I don't know if that would be practically possible; I don't have a T90.

A Simulsat parabolic torus reflector would be ideal, but I guess WAY over (y)our budget, even when you have enough room for it.

Why don't you want two dishes?

Are those on a multistream transponder?
That might be of influence, for which size dish you need, to get a strong enough signal. Maybe others can comment on that...

Hello everyone.

Wow, that was amazing feedback, this forum is brilliant!

So I guess I've no choice but to have two dishes then...

@a33
Don't know if it's a multistream transponder. I was googling for info about getting Spanish TV and found this site where they have a package of a 79.5 x 73 cm dish and a receiver with built in decryption card.

What's confusing me now is on that site they list the channels you can get and they say the channels are on Hispasat 30°West but when I check that on Lyngsat or FlySat or KingofSat I don't see any of them listed on that satellite? (apart from TVE 24h).

I think these are the channels & transponders:

As for signal strength I seem to remember being able to receive them on a zone 2 Sky minidish, but that was a while ago so will try again the next time the weather cooperates.

You were able to receive them? I was reading that those Spanish DTT channels require a special box to decode the signal. I also read it could be possible to decode the encryption using maybe VLC and python running in an enigma2 box or TV headed.

Does anyone know or are we allowed to talk about that?

Cheers!

Sorry we can't and won't talk about that on this site.

When I say I could receive them I mean I can see the signal on my meter, not view the channels.

Just done an experiment with the Zone 2/std SKY Mk 4 LNB on the Albertis package on 11222/H/30000. That dish (which I haven't touched for months) is right at ground level and on the end of 30m of cable including a 16-1 DiSEqC switch, a Smart priority switch and then an antenna selection relay, and finally the Octagon SX88+ Rx - and it's "booming in " with 90% SS & 70-82% SQ with dozens of channels in including the La1 ones, & so on, as well as most/all of the linked transponders & channels thrown up by the "network search option" !

Therefore that package is definitely "do-able" on a Zone 2 dish in the London area!

Are you getting 30w and 28e at same time or just trying 30w? I can get 30w on sky dish easily enough thats not the issue?

Just 30W as 28E has it's own dish down the garden & can also be got via the steerable Gibby down there - and then there's the Zone 2 on top of the conservatory for the SKY+ HD box (which is an entirely separate system from the "hobby" system!)!

PS: I thought something like that would have been obvious from Post #5

Edited: Post#12 was for the benefit of flexcmurphy in respect of his original question - regular members of the forum would probably already be aware that getting 30W on a Sky dish is emminently possible!!! :)

Ps Nope wasn't obvious 1635191240345.png As we all know 30w is possible from a sky dish so not sure what your post was referring to!!!!!!!1635191322307.png.

As others have said, second Zone 2 Sky dish should work fine for these channels on 30°W.

The only much weaker ones are the versions of TVE and A3/La6 for the Canary Islands on 11653H - I lose those fairly quickly in the rain. If you do go down the route of getting an official receiver, it's unlikely to be mapped for those though anyway unless bought from a Canary Islands source!

That kit on TV Corner looks eye-wateringly expensive at €395! I've seen reports before that the boxes go on sale in Spain in the hypermarkets sometimes for much cheaper. I guess you pay a premium for them to sort the admin of sourcing and exporting the kit...

TV Corner are also showing the incorrect frequencies at the bottom of the page. These relate to the Movistar+ pay service that used to be carried on 30°W as well as 19.2°E, and have nothing to do with this system which uses a proprietary method to encrypt and hide the channels. @ozumo 's post links to the correct frequencies.

These feeds are mainly used to feed the terrestrial network in Spain, with TDT SAT boxes being supplied as a bonus, targeted mainly at those in Spain who have no terrestrial signal.
