My Dad has just bought a house in Paphos, Cyprus. The house has 1 lnb off a 4-way shared 4m Dish with (apparently) most free (no sky card) channels currently.

He also has a place in the UK with a single subscription using a Pace 2600C1 receiver in the UK. Could he take that to Cyprus complete with his viewing card, keep paying the subscription in the UK and continue to obtain the channels he's paying for? If he did this could he make his current subscription multiroom to keep his channels whilst he's in the UK? He's not renting, the subscription is entirely for him.

Thanks,

Mark.

Yes, absolutely. This is the best way as you won't have to pay a middleman's fee with an agent

Unfortunately not. For a multi-room subscription ALL boxes have to be plugged into the telephone line. A bit difficult for the box in Cyprus methinks!

If he only goes there for short periods it might work, say four weeks at a time.

Good point there Rolf. Always play the "Sorry, I didn't realise the wife/cleaner/son/dog disconnected the lead" if challenged!

It is more likely he'll be in the UK for a few weeks at a time, he's retiring out there & keeping a flat here.

Is this always the case? We have a spare "teen" room in the garden that used to be an external double garage, I'm sure they said that we could have multiroom into there despite there being no phone line, but it would have an additional cost. I must be mistaken.

Thanks for the replies,

Mark.

AFAIK they are quite strict in policing the multiroom discount. Perhaps the additional cost makes it equivalent to a full subscription?

No, you are not mistaken, the additional cost will be the difference between £10 and your main subscription, in other words you will be paying for a full subscription on the second box. If you are happy with this, then there is no problem.

I'm not happy with it for my situation, but I have a sneaking suspicion that my Dad will go for it.

Thanks,

Mark.

I have a few customers who brought the second box(multiroom) over and they all got caught out, most got their subscription raised to full price a couple got switched off because they argued with sky.
While on the subject, are those phone rediallers still around and would they work? Does sky "call" the digibox or is the digibox made to call sky?

I don't image he's worry about paying full price for each house, just that he can get his TV. When he had a holiday home in the UK he had a full Sky subscription at each house. The problem now is that he has 1 house in UK which is already on Sky and he wants to receive Sky when he's at his house in Cyprus.

We already also have Sky at our house so we can't take out an additional for him. If Sky were to say 2 x full subs or no Sky I'm sure he'll pay it. I, however will not pay more than the £10 extra to have multiroom in our old garage room just because it doesn't have a phone line. It is detached so I'm not running one over there. Freeview will have to do for my kid's den. As I said before, my retired Dad will almost certainly think differently for his place(s).

Thanks,

Mark.
