Hi All,

I've been the happy owner of the HDCI-2000 for a few faultless years now. Using the Dragon cam with predator files has been great. Along with that and the ability to load a full channel list via the formula software I cannot fault the unit. It has served me well .... up until about 2 hours ago. It seems to be dead. Doesn't respond to power cycling or anything else for that matter.

Anyways I won't be going down the route of trying to contact Humax (pointless really) so I've decided to just treat myself to a new system.

Clearly there are many new systems on the market at the moment and it would be nice to implement the dragon cam again. I get the feeling, however, that the Predator files won't be available much longer and encryption seems to becoming ever more sophisticated and the dragon cam will become defunct sooner than later. Come to think of it I don't really get much out of the Predator upgrades at the moment so I don't know why I bother. Would this be a correct assumption?

With this in mind I'm not really sure which route I should be going down. I would like HD for sure. I would also like it to be able to record - rude not to really. I am not a $ky subscriber and never intend to be ever again so it would be nice to have a system which I can play around with in the way that I did with the Dragon cam. I'm not a sports fan but the ability to pull in a few film channels would be nice.

In essence I am more interested to know what type of system I should be looking for rather than what brand. When I bought my Humax the only real other option back then was a dreambox which seemed to be a ball ache to update. Early days yet and I may even be able to sort my Humax box but I thought I might do a little research first.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh I have a DiSeq 1.2 motor so would like to keep that and the dish. Come to think of it - I hope it's not the motor thats blown my Hummy.

Cheers,

Normsky

Through browsing this site alone I've already pretty much made up my mind on the Dreambox DM800 HD. Seems to have everything I want and is compatible with my current motor.

Considering the size of the global support userbase and not to mention "The Ultimate Idiot Guide!" I reckon I can't go wrong.

It's money I'd rather not be spending but then I am already divorced so bugger it and sod the expense. ;)

In fact i just ordered one. :-rofl2

I am surprised you are not having a go at repairing it, it probably is just the power supply and it would not take long to confirm that. There is a learning curve associated with the Dreambox, I do not believe it is as user friendly as what you are used to, but if you have the time then why not....

Actually I have a friend who has a Dreambox and I used to be a UNIX Administrator and to be honest I'm looking forward to be trying out different software cams etc.

I'll be having a proper look at the Humax box later in the week. I noticed yesterday that there is a schematic for power supply out there so I'll see about grabbing that. I'm a bit rusty on my electronics but if its something obvious I'll either repair it or swap it out. I haven't given up on it yet. There is just one sign of life and thats the glowing output from the spdif
