Guys,
I'm a newcomer to this forum in my search for advice on the above.
I want to receive decent Spanish tv here in the UK, i.e preferably the main Spanish channels that are available on terrestrial in Spain:

TVE1, TVE2, Antena 3, Cuatro, Telecinco and La Sexta.

I know nothing technical about satellite receivers etc etc but from browsing the Internet I have gathered that it's possible to receive loads of free to air (seemingly rubbish local) Spanish channels.

Is it possible to receive something like the Spanish Digital+ service (and therefore the decent channels) and is a subscription needed? If so, how does one go about subscribing and what equipment is needed?? What sort of costs are involved?

I'm getting a bit frustrated trawling through websites where nobody is able to give me a clear answer and I hope someone here can help.

Cheers

Hiya interceptor,
Spanish channels are available on Hispasat and Astra 1 via Digital+ - you'll need a subscription for these (a dealer would be able to help you with this, as you can't subscribe without a valid Spanish address) - it is quite pricey though. As for equipment, again, a dealer would be able to help you with that - it is possible that you may need to buy a specific receiver (in the same way that users here have to buy S%y approved digiboxes)
The 'main' channels available are TVE1 and 2, Cuatro, La Sexta and Canal+, though there are plenty of others available. Antena 3 and Telecinco are not available via satellite.
There are also several free channels available (i.e. without a subscription) including Popular, and the various 'autonimos' (though these are special satellite versions - no Hollywood films, little sport, no imported TV programmes) and TVE Internacional (a kind of BBC Prime) - the best range of FTA programming is on Hispasat. Cuatro is also available FTA, but only on analogue. There are also plenty of radio stations broadcasting via satellite

The channels you mention in your post are included in the basic kit
of payment. There are some Spanish channels, however, that you
do not list: TeleMadrid, Andalucía, TVGalega, TV Catalá, TV Euzkadi,
TV Valenciá, TV Canarias, which are free; i.e.: you do not have
to pay anything for watching them.
There is a basic kit for about 50 Euros a month. You have to pay
via a bank account in Spain. The satellite aerial beam is 19.2 º East.
Still, if what you are concerned with is watching soccer matches or
films on the Taquillas (premiere films) you are supposed to make
monthly instalments of 70 Euros each so that you are intitled to
watching them.
One legal way out for you could be to get in touch with somebody
in Spain willing to pay for watching Sky Channel programmes, which
include free terrestrial channels that you do not have to pay for
in Britain, so that you could open an account for them there and
they would do the same for you in Spain.
Getting to watch Digital + for free entails illegal procedures that do not
always work and lately this is being the case.
Hope you get a good idea of the whole thing. Cheerio
