The Philips TV has the necessary decoders built in and 5.1 speaker set up. The difficulty I had is that the DVD outputs an optical digital signal whilst the TV has a coax digital input (2 in fact). Purchased a nice little coverter box, mains powered and the two connection leads for a total of £34.
