Hi folks,

My house is "under construction" and I plan to connect all rooms with Ethernet cat6 only (no coax). I can get TV from satellites only (not sure which satellite yet, maybe hotbird).
I plan to wire the LNBs in the "technical/server room" and from there, I would like to use the Ethernet network only.
My idea is:
- install Dreambox (or equivalent) in the technical room and use "official" subscription card.
- distribute the signal to several TVs sets in different rooms.
- install a "decoder" or "receiver" next to each TV...

Of course, I would like to watch different channels on each TV.
I am ready to acquire additional hardware but I dont know what!!

Can someone help with the design of this set-up? I heard about "cardsharing" (cccam) . Would it help in my case?

1 Dreambox equals 1 channel to be watched at one time, if you want different channels in different rooms at the same time, you will need a different satellite receiver for every different channel you require to watch simultaneously.

You will also then need a matrix switch, or assign a receiver to each room.

Thanks. That's fine for the additional Dreambox in each room. But can I use the Ethernet network for this or do I have to install coax wiring in all rooms?

Combination of two systems there. Cat5e/6 matrix switch coupled with a rack of receivers in the server room. Cable 2 x cat6 runs to each zone.

As mentioned, local network will only give you one channel per receiver. Alternatively, run coaxial and use a multiswitch with receivers in each room.

As I am new in these satellite systems, I am not sure to get the full picture of your proposal:

All receivers are in the server room. How are they connected to the TV sets? And do you mean that I shall re-transmit the remote control to the server room to pilot the receivers?

Unless your TVs have internet browser capability to run the Dreambox web interface (A little flaky in my opinion anyway), you would use a Matrix switch to transmit composite video (or HDMI) and remote commands over the CAT6, do an internet search for AV matrix switching.

If you want to put the dreamboxes in the room, you will need as Satelliteman suggests, satellite grade coax feeds to the rooms as well to carry the IF signal from the dish.

Thanks for this. Have you heard about a hardware device that would behave like a "Dreambox" client and that would do the job of the AV matrix. I assume it is simple to build a box that would relay the remote control signals from the user and receive the decoded signal from the dreambox using the Ethernet wire. That would allow us to leave the Dreambox in the technical room and use Ethernet cables only.

Not heard of anything specific to the Dreambox and would not want to restrict the infrastructure to only working with a Dreambox. Have you looked at this type of thing? _http://www.bluedelta.co.uk/milestone_system.html
