I think I remember reading somewhere that you can get the dm500 and thus by default the 600 to output component video, if you know what you are doing.

Can anybody please confirm this?

If you can, can you tell me how to do it?

You need an RGB (scart) to component converter; just select component in

Expert setup > system settings > AV settings > color format > YPbPr

Excellent, thanks very much! I was going to buy an HD receiver to replace another disastrous HTPC, but you know where you are with a Dreambox; you're not waiting for somebody else to come up with a patch; and just how much HD material is there anyway?

Unfortunately, my scaler doesn't take component, but I can at least buy a component to HDMI converter.

It's component through scart; you set it to RGB or YPbPr. I tried both and couldn't see any difference.

Oh no, I am not expecting to see any difference. It's just that a YUV to HDMI converter is cheaper than a scart to HDMI converter. ;)

You'll need two adapters- there is no YPbPr connectors on the Dreambox. It has a scart socket that you can set to be RGB or YPbPr; to connect a component cable you'll need a scart to component adapter:

Hey everyone - regarding component output - Do I actually need to purchase a SCART to Component converter? (they are rather expensive) or will a simple SCART to Component cable work? As you can select YPbPr in the AV settings, doesnt this mean the DM will do the conversion in it's own circuitry and output component via certain pins within the Scart interface? I thought SCART to component converters were designed for outputs where you cant select YPbPr ?

Cheers.

You just need the adaptor. I used a Profigold Scart - YPbPr adaptor cable with my Triple Dragon to the Sony Bravia, but I didn't think the difference in picture quality over RGB was significant enough. Anyway I use the component in of the Sony for an HD STB now.

Don't hijack a thread unrelated to your problem. Start a new one.

OK, back on topic; does anybody with a Dreambox that'll output component via scart also have a DVDO iScan VP30?

If so, you'll know what I want to ask....

How?
