Hi all,

I'm new to the forum but definitely not new to Sky and satellite.
I have a question that I thought I might pose to you guys if you are more familiar with installation requirements than myself. Having just moved into a new flat we have a communal Satellite system with a communal dish on the roof which I expect willhave been grounded itself into the Fabric of the building.

We had a Sky engineer around the other day who refused to fit our sky Q in as there was no grounding cables on to the sky multi switches in our communal cupboard. Is this right as I expect that to adhere to electrical regulations that the dish would have to be ground and the coaxial cable entering the building from the dish would be ground prior to entering as well. Please see the photo have attached as I would love to hear your guys opinions as sky have refused to install until we have this sorted is it sky that are refusing wrongly or do we need to get building management to rectify the issue.

Red circles is where the engineer said we need ground cables.

Thanks guys!

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Top right unit has a ground cable and the other two matrix switches are earthed via the cores of the connecting cables.

The sky monkeys are refusing SkyQ since it is not a compatible system, you have a four port / four polarity LNB on the roof, Q requires a twin full band input.

Not sure why the above is in bold, very little wrong with your distribution system either

The top right one doesn't have a grounding cable. That green cable is passing behind it and isn't attached to it. Are they all still earthed via the cores of the connecting cables?

Also what do you mean it's not a compatible system? Two people have sky Q in our block. But seem to have had a lucky or smart engineer??

Could you advise me on a solution?

Sky are talking out of their proverbial, also there is a 90% chance that building has a PME Earthing system
last thing you want to do is go adding earth cables to things.

Sky do a "plug in adapter" for residents with a communal system, so not sure why they didn't offer you that.

Any idea what the actual name of this plug in adapter is for when I call them tomorrow?

Was this on a Friday this install? Because it sounds a "Friday Job", Had a similar thing happen to me when I was with the ex wife, young guy turned up half 3 on a Friday afternoon, said he couldn't do the job because it was a lagged wall (cladding, call it what you want), at the time $ky installers proper i.e. non sub contractors hadn't the coach bolts for said walls. Turned out he was talking cr#p the wall had simply been redashed with fresh roughcast, there was no insulation layer.

Rusty, when you say the hard work has been done already. I take it only one of those adapters is required? Or is it a 1 adapter per connection thing

Only one per "X" amount of users, it's in there and looks like its set up :)
