This performance was the worst performance I have evers seen in a world cup last 16, and I have been watching most games since 1974, It's not so much the result, but the manner a fairly average German team managed to put 4 past a shocking England team - and England were lucky it wasn't 6, 7, or 8.

I demand from the FA that they sack the manager, and the whole staff as well as 20 of the 23 players. Start again from fresh, use only young players + Rooney and Joe Cole maybe. If I ever see that midfield trio of Lampard, Gerrard and Bary I swear I will puke at something.

The German team was poor, and got a couple of dodgy centre halfs, and the keeper was not that great as well. But at least they know how to keep their position, and at least they have half a brain between their back 4 - unlike the 3 Donkeys of the Apocalipse. Sly and slow Terry, clueless Upson and don't start me on Johnson, the fullback who does not know what defending is. I swear Gary Neville would have one a better job.

What about Cap'n Gerrard? SHOCKING!!! The guy plays football for god knows how long, but is so indiciplined in his positional play it is unreal.

Rooney? What can I say, If I ha't seen him do the stuff every week for Manchester, I'd have a go at him as well - but he is young and there is still hope for him. But the rest?

Just got back from Italy and when we watched the only game Engerland actually managed to win in a local bar (and the construction of this sentence has been specially devised for ambiguity ........). Capello's reaction upon scoring received almost unanimous response from the natives suggesting his hand is often used for manipulating his instrument. I am, of course, far too polite to use the word "w*nker" (allegedly) directly.

I think he should go as they need to cut off this sick and deseased part once and for all. At the end of the day, he is a top top manager but he has failed and needs to go. I have the suspicion that the rot inside those leading players such as Lampard, Gerrard, Tery and a few others of the Golden Loser Generation is so deep that even capello could not fix it. It is simply time to wipe it clean and start new with a very very young team and a new manager.

I look forward to the last few Billy Nomates from the local council estate returning home with a gutfull of cheap lager and dodgy BBQ meat early tomorrow morning, having broken off more car aerials and tipping over our dustbins once again, and life can return to normal for another few months.

(I might set up the webcam)

Well done to the young German lads, they gave England one hell uv a beating. England were atrocious even by their poor standards of display in this championship. John Terry is finished as an England player, he was the worst one on the park, I would even go as far as to say a number of others should never play again for England, Heskey being one of them. The problem is that Cappello as good as he is did not allow the players to play in their natural positions or their Premiership positions, what did he expect, he was playing a format that went out years ago and the players could not adapt. A bunch of 9 years olds could have commanded the midfield like Germany did, sorry Capello must tear up his newly signed contract, and I suppose he signed that so that he could get a couple of million severence pay if it all went tits up

Yes, can't disagree much with that. I am not sure if Terry was so bad because he had to cover up for even worse Upson, thereby losing his own sense of where he should be - but in any case other than 3 or three players I hope I will never ever see them playing for England again.

Taken from a Teamtalk post:
"This 'Golden Generation' of players have proved themselves more of a 'Golden Shower', and if Capello is prepared to turn to youth, then he's the man to take us forward in future tournaments.

We need to see Joe Hart given the chance to establish himself in goal, Ryan Shawcross shoring up the centre of defence, Jack Rodwell and James Milner providing our midfield heartbeat, Aaron Lennon and Ashley Young fighting it out for the right-wing berth and Adam Johnson first-choice for the left-wing role."

I hope Capello does turn to youth, he has little else left to turn to after all. I would like to see an English manager of an English team, but can't think of anyone I would welcome with open arms right now. Most of the squad should not be picked again and I am disgusted by their performance.

Next month England U19's are playing in the European Championships here in Normandy. They play France at St.Lo, about an hour's drive north of me. Maybe I should go along and see if there is any long term future for English football. I doubt Capello will be there.......

England will never win anything major because:-

A) There are too many foreign players in the top English league. There is not enough home grown talent getting a chance. EU law needs to be different for sport - There must be a cap on non homegrown players. This is not just affecting England, just have a look at the defending champions Italy with their Champions league winning side with hardly any Italians in it - no wonder their national side crashed out. I am not racist but if we are going to have competitions between nations then the nations must have as much assistance to bring on home grown talent.
Unfortunately the Premier league is the richest league in the world and they will not change if it means less money into their coffers. Look at Man Utd, they will at some stage soon have serious financial problems. They are not going to agree to anything that will mean less money into the club (I am not singling out Man U - they are all the same).

 When we have managers that WILL NOT adapt to the players strengths then you are not gonna do too well. A good manager adapts, we do not have a good manager.

(will finish my rant tomorrow when I sober up)

No, only England. As fa as I understood Roy is waiting before committing himself for Liverpool to see if the FA get rid of Capello.

Well, if you're on first name terms with "Roy" I give way to your insider knowledge LOL. I did mean either Liverpool or England, even a man of his capabilities would find it difficult to manage both!! I think he would be a good choice, given his club and international experience. Apparently he speaks five languages too, which would come in handy for arguing with the officials!

I was a big Capello fan, I got to admit it. And I was saying before that if they won't hav a great world cup, it will be the players not the manager. But, having looked at the games and the tactics, it is a bit more complicated than just that.

Capello is a great manager, but he was working mostly with players in Italy and Spain, and they are tactically better than England. I don't think Capello ever had to work with an undisciplined player such as Gerrard before. Same with other players. For the first goal, coming from a long ball, Terry and Upson were both completely out of position. On many occasions Terry was chasing the ball rather than making sure he is in the correct position on the pitch. So he should have seen that playing Gerrard on the left is useless. And there were other issues as well, most of you guys who watch a lot of football know what they are, no need to repeat them here.

So theoretically he should be given a second chance. BUT, the failure was so complete, so devastating that hze has got to go, just because his name will forever be connected to this collossal failure. And that goes for most of that squad other than maybe 2 or three of the young players such as Rooney, Milner and Lennon, and maybe one or two of the "older" such as Defoe and Crouch maybe. The rest should do the decen thing and announce that they retire and leave the pitch to a younger and better generation.

For me, there cannot be any other conclusion, otherwise we will end up with the same situation as France with Domenech. Would Germany have kept their manager with the same result? Brazil? Italy?

Ok, so Germany beating Argentina 4-0? I know we played badly but at least we manged to score twice :D:D

Will there be an outcry for Maradona to go? I doubt it. I can't see Germany losing the tournament now.

I hate to admit it, but the Germans played a beautiful game, hats off to them...They are so disciplined in defence and come out in numbers to attack. When I see Schweinsteiger playing the holding midfield role I want to cry - and you can't even accuse them of playing boring because really they are atacking a lot - just not like headless chicken. Football is a simple game, and they keep it simple. Left midfield plays on the left, and central in the middle. Put in the crosses from both sides. Score goals. I wish the England players were watching this game. *********!!!!!
