I just bought an InfinityUSB(Pheonix) card writer and 2x Fun Card6 in order to load my new Matrix RL CAM :) . I followed these instructions exactly:

http://www.weethet.nl/english/smartcard_infinityusb.php

..but when the card is writing, it just stops part of the way through and hangs (same thing when I try to erase them))(-red . I tried it with 2 different cards several times and got the same results.

This is my first attempt at programming, so maybe I did something wrong and damaged the cards? (At first I just loaded the "ext.EEProm" without the "Flash" file, would that damage it? How easy are these cards damaged anyway?)

On the InfinityUSB website, they say using "Detect" on anything other than a "PIC or AVR" based card can damage it. Are FunCards and Titaniums PIC and AVR based? :confused

I'm thinking to buy some more FunCards, but thought I would first check in here and get some feedback....
Thanks

Erik,
I think it is very unlikely that two cards would both be faulty. I have exactly the same programmer and have done funs and tits OK (well, a bit of a comms problem with the serial interface that meant trouble with tits initially but that won't be bothering you yet).

So what can I suggest - try changing the USB port, do the simple things first to see if that makes any difference. If not, try again but check the Windows Task Manager - Applications. If the Infinity status changes from "running" to "not responding", then I would be inclined to try reloading the Infinity software and try again. You can get updates from the Infinity website or even do a complete download from there, I think.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Norm,

Thanks for the advice. I have it connected to a USB2 port right now (actually, the USB2 port has given me some problems before), so switching to a USB1 port may be a good idea.

I'm not sure what else it could be? I do have the newest software installed. And when I start writing all looks good (progress bars moving, blue light flashing quickly), then suddely it freezes ("program not responding") and blue light blinks slowly.

SHould the serial port be configured in any special way?

Also, now that you mention Tit cards, I did try to program that unsucessfully. But realized I wasn't in Phoenix mode. The makers of Inf.USB said that you can destroy the card if it is used in any other mode than Pheonix. Is that true? And can they be brought back to life, if so?

Here is the quote:

Funcards are AVR based, Goldcards are PIC based, these are okay to detect. Titanium cards are "phoenix" based, which means it is not natively supported by the Infinity USB. You should not try to detect this card nor should you insert this card while NOT in phoenix mode. This could destroy the card.

Thanks!

Erik,
For a Fun card, you do not need the serial connection only the USB so I would be inclined to concentrate on that area first to get the Fun cards done (one hurdle at a time). And if you've had problems with that USB port previously, I would concentrate on this.

I don't know about destroying the tit card by trying to auto detect it - although if there is a warning to that effect, it would seem that this is a possibility. I haven't tried that and probably won't now! I had problems trying to use Comm port 1 (the only one I had on my PC) I got a PIC card from Maplin with addional ports and that worked no problem - straight from the box.

I believe that there has previously been some discussion here on reviving tit cards, you could try a search.

Erase card many times completely, Flash ,internal and external and try again. I used Infinity USB and fun 6 to prog a Joker and it worked fine. but card must be very clean.

SUCCESS!!
I changed USB port (from USB2 to USB1) and removed the Serial cable, re-installed the software and it worked no problems!
