I've lost the key to the patio door which has a euro lock fitting.

The door is in the unlocked state, but this prevents the barrel from being slipped through the door frame and fit the replacement lock.

Is there a knack to this, or do I have to resort to drilling out the tumblers, not something I really want to do.

Thanks in advance

The last time I replaced one of these it was necessary to turn the key to a certain angle so that the lock could be withdrawn.

Alternatively, you could try picking the lock. (Not joking, should be possible)

Robbo is correct. You need a key to turn the lock barrel slightly and then you undo the small grub screw holding the barrel into the door. The barrel will then slide out as the tumblers are flush with the barrel.

It certainly is possible to pick locks and a GOOD locksmith can do this. Bad ones will just drill them out.

I hesitate to say this but there are guides to lock picking out there on t'Internet...

I have picked my OWN front door lock once, just for a laugh, took about 5 mins.

It can be quick if you get it right, or you could be all day trying.:)

As the door can be opened, I have already found and taken out the small grub screw to see if the barrel would slide out, which is when I found the retaining design of the lock.

Damn, I hate drilling locks, metal filings everywhere for cats paws to pick up.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Try sticking an envelope to the door just under the lock and pull it open a bit and it should catch most of the filings... :)

Either that or vacuum up after you're done... :p

Other than replacing or repairing a euro door lock you can alternatively change the lock style from a thumb turn lock to a double key style. This idea can be great for the front door of your house. You can always go to a locksmith to get your lock sets fixed or replaced.

I did check it and it was clean timo, it was just a link to lock repairs etc.
If he is a genuine satellite enthusiast who has just joined today then I do apologise and hope no offence was caused by my edit, but I was just suspicious of someone who registered today to post a link with a keyword in a 7 year old thread on a non-satellite related subject...
