My prediction is current single beam will be converted into super beam covering Europe, Middle East and part of Africa.

I am still hopeful that there won't be any dedicated beam for Europe only

If it covers Europe, Middle East & North Africa then its not a super beam!

This page mentions a Europe superbeam, (bottom paragraph) although Im not sure where they got the info from - I'll have a dig around

in recent years many satellite limits their coverage to specific region. like eurobird 9 with ukrain beam italy beam or 9 degree east with greece beam or 5 degree west. so i think new hotirda follow this path. maybe restricted beam has many benefits for tv providers.

The "improved match" sentence is interesting too - thats stopping overspill into other areas. Which means tighter roll off at the edge of the footprint. So we may find places like India & Pakistan start to lose out

Yup it does. Restricted beams are going to become more & more important to the operators & transmission companies in the future - and remember it was due to be introduced in Europe as far back as 2002 on Astra 1K.

Frequency reuse between beams means less frequencies are needed to tranmit much more content, & steep drop off at beam edges means much reduced out of area viewing. The importance of recduced beam coverage can be demonstrated very simply. Badr4 had an "MBC beam" listed for years, supposedly reducing coverage of the MBC channelsm to MENA. It was a complete fabrication - I could easily receive it on an 80 cm dish in southern Scotland. The signals were exactly the same strength as the rest of the frequencies I could pick up. But the untruth kept the tv companies happy........

Hotbird 7 was December 2002. The main engine on the rocket destroyed itself & the craft was blown up by the range safety people. We also lost the STENTOR satellite on that mission

please review latest financial report which is more authentic source of information

I will be shocked if there's no MENA coverage, described elsewhere on the Eutelsat site as a "key market" for 13°E, currently received by 27 million homes across the region.

The wide beam will be used for iranian ,Arabic, Armenian ,Greek & Turkish channels...alll nonsense..it's better to get rid of wide beam bcuz all this countries have their own satellites no need for it... i don't think any1 will setup 13e in those countries anymore.

Let's not forget that some countries in the Middle East or the Far East, or North Africa use satellites with European coverage because there are many people from those countries living on our continent. It is enough to look at how many such TV packages are addressed to these foreigners/emigrants, as you want to call them, only on Hotbird or other central satellites in Europe.
The phenomenon of mass migration from different geographical areas in Europe is forcing many program operators to take this new reality into account. So let's not be surprised that there are such programs from exotic areas on many European satellites.
If what I am saying now is true, then the transmission of Arabic, Turkish, etc. channels makes sense in one way or another.

I agree transmitting those kinds of channels for refugees or students in Europe but super beam will do the needful. Not necessarily on wide beam
