Hi friends ..
I figured I shouldn't have any problems receiving the mux on 3927 R
8300 5/6 with my new lnb on my 1.8pf dish ...
Since this is the only bird carrying c band transmissions that I can access East of 1West ...I was hoping to get some kind of result.
I simply can't get anything :(
I realise I'm probably on the edge of the footprint ...at least according to the map at lyngsat ...but I thought the global beam should theoretically provide enough signal at my location ..approx halfway up the UK.
Is the beam really that tight that the signal falls away rapidly ??
Can any UK C bander confirm reception from this mux ?
Due to the nature of the signal ..ie ..DVBS2 8PSK ...mpeg4 ...
I've tried both with a DVBS2 pci card ..and my Humax HDCI2000
Maybe I wouldn't be able to resolve mpeg4 ...but I still would expect to lock a signal.
most confusing and frustrating...

MPEG-4 signals will require a somewhat higher signal to lock in, without the other details I would guess about 15-20% over a standard MPEG-2 broadcast.

The lower symbol rate isn't doing you any favours either.

Ahh, it's DVB S2 as well

As a test, can you get Ghana off this satellite ?

I suspect you are correct regarding C band reception from this bird..CH
As you correctly assumed ..I cannot get Ghana off Intel903...and the comparison is a fair one ..
In view of the fact that the C band beams are Africa specific I shall give up trying ..
..at least until a non DVBS2 signal is available to test.

Hello Vipersan,

since 13.01.2010 EBU feeds on 3866 R 13334 7/8 in DVB-S MPEG-2 4:2:0 in clear or in encrypted in BISS.

But I guess that signal with an FEC from 7/8 is too low for 180cm.

PS: 3928 H with 69% on CTCP.

Good luck!

Edgar.

Indeed I named the 7/8 fec = the killer fec and if the s/r is under 2000 the reception is a total chaos for small dishes and sometimes for receivers too:D

Sometimes if you read qwer's wonder if C band is qwer or qwer is C band isn't it, vipersan?!

Hi Doktor ..
certainly very low symbol rates upset my Humax receiver..
Africa No1 (radio channels) on 5West 4163 L - 1500 3/4 for example ...
Signal level is around 60% ..
Quality around 85% .....but no way will the receiver lock in and scan the channel channel ..
..and thats with an fec of 3/4 ...not even the killer fec ;)

This may not be a signal issue, but the receiver front end.

If you are willing to sacrifice the HD need (which on low symbol rate transmissions is a moot point), go get a TM1000 or 1500CI from the internet as they are cheap as chips and work very well down to the lower symbol rates - 1000 or thereabouts.

Stick it on the Humax IF loop and use when needed, you will be pleasantly surprised in what it can get.

I'll take a look at those receivers CH ...but I already have a new 'want' on my shopping list ..
I'd love to get my hands on an AZbox ...
..just for feed hunting on Ku and C...
Apparently this box will do 4.2.2 / 4.2.0 etc ...both HD and SD ...
The only thing it doesn't have is blindscan ...but even this is apparently in the pipeline as a software addon
rgds and thanks for the info..

OK, but check your findings on the AZ box and sensitivity first, the 1000/1500 series has been out for years and is known for good low symbol rate detection.

@ vipersan

if you want feedhunting buy Vantage HD ,Clarke Tech 5000/5100 (CTCP)or the cheaper Smart HD.I'm a feedhunter too and I use vantage x201 and it works great .I can blindscan even with 1 MHz precision and find all the feeds. The HD model of Vantage have the same function .
Azbox is good only to see some 4:2:2 but I heard that it has difficulties with lower S/R ....4:2:2 you can watch with a DVB card

Back to 10E

I think the coverage map is not real .I don't have an HDTV receiver so I can;t check the signal. But the W2A is a young bird :D and has enought power , but is low on your location vipersan. But first of all check with an another HDTV receiver

Good luck:cool:

If this mux won't be switched off till weather here gets a bit warm and snow will go away, I'll try to lock it with my 1.5m primefocus dish.
