A thick piece at the top, a thinner piece in the middle, and none at the bottom. In my case this resulted in the pole being mounted further away from the wall at the to than it was at the bottom. This straightened the pole to vertical even though it was securely bolted to a non-vertical wall.If your wall leans the other way, of course, you would use the thickest padding at the bottom not at the top.2old</blockquote>
