I read that the BBC will still not be offering a HD braodcast in the UK this season, yet ORF 1 has been broadcasting in HD since at least the start of last season. O-st
Is it perhaps that ORF are upscaling ?

Sly Italia now have there Calcio HD channels up and running, will they too be offering HD ?
Who actually films the races, isn't it all in house and controlled by Bernie ?

Yes, the coverage is all in Bernie's hands.

AFAIK, full HD coverage of all Races is not yet offered by FOM, apart from occasional trials over the past couple of seasons

I'd like to think the BBC would take it up as soon as it does become available though.

Yes me too mate. You'd think with the technology within the sport they'd be keen to employ the latest broadcasting technology too.
Never mind HD, I want 3D ! :-rofl2

Done a little googling on this. It seems FOM is totally responsible for the filming of race weekends, and up to now has never offered HD. So to answer my own question, any HD broadcasts it seems have been upscaled.
Lee Mckenzie the pundit from the BBC has apparently twittered that HD is not happening this season, but may come for 2011.

Come on Bernie , get yer bloody finger out, or p!ss off ....

It's all Bernie's fault, there's no reason why F1 isn't in HD other than Bernie doesn't want to invest in producing a HD feed. Sky Italia will no longer by showing F1, and I can't help but believe that a lack of HD feed has put them off. It's a disgrace that the world's most technologically advanced sport isn't shown in HD.

And I think I read somewhere that the BBC aren't allowed to show upscaled stuff - has to be native 1080

Jake humphs (BBC F1 presenter) said yesterday on his twitter feed something along the lines of "for the millionth time stop asking. there will be NO HD F1 on the BBC as FOM do not provide a HD feed (not upscaled like others) for domestic TV stations at the moment, we will as soon as FOM provice a HD feed for us and all the other broadcasters"

but i remember seeing something about a few cinemas doing HD F1 last year...
