fortec passion receiver - powering off problem

Hi, my passion receiver powers off after 27 second leaving 4 zero,s in the display. i see in previous threads cap 201 which is 2200uF 16 voltin my receiver .would changing this address my problem ?

That cap does give trouble on these receivers; usually the box fails to boot up. In your case, it appears to be a fixed time before failure, so maybe the cap's charging cycle reaches a certain point and doesn't retain its voltage. Try a replacement.

Have you tried switching on the box without the dish connected ?

You haven't tried any firmware updates have you ?

If you have a multimeter handy, do a check on the voltage outputs from the power supply. They're clearly marked at the bottom of the supply. Five in all -

2.5V
5V
7.5V
14V
23V

The 2.5V supply is the one that has been giving trouble (from C201), so check to see if the voltage starts to drop before the problem occurs - it may be another component in that supply.

If it's stable, do a similar check on the other supplies.
