Dish is an old Sky dish (5 years old) and box is used with Samsung TV

Hi,
I have had my Freesat box for 2 years and recently noticed that every time I turn it on, the dish is having to reset itself. The dish itself is 5 years old SKY dish.
Can anyone shed any light onto why this is happening?
Thanks in advance!

It's more likely to be a software bug rather than a problem with the dish. A factory reset may help but you will probably lose all recordings.

What is the box actually saying? Some will check at initial startup what it is connected to and can detect whether it's a wideband , universal or even SCR (Single cable/channel router) feed and will normally only do this if it's forgotten what was setup on last start.

From what I seen over the web this may be the answer.

The message on the screen says that it is resetting the dish and an image of the dish with moving arcs. The box is connected to the TV via an HDMI which has not been removed or changed.

Can you clarify if this is a dedicated UK Freesat box or a set top box branded 'Freesat'? By the description of the problem it sounds like the box thinks it's connected to a motorised system...

I was thinking alike. Though it is strange that it mentions resetting "the dish", as the dish itself cannot be reset.

I wonder if the box settings menu have motorized commands set?

The real question is why has this suddenly happened? Settings do not normally change their status spontaneously!

Yes, the is the question. Don't want to buy a new box as they are pricey.

There is a good choice of Free To Air receivers to purchase online for less than £100. However, I doubt there is a problem with your existing box which would produce a fault as you've described. If anything, it sounds like some random button pressing (or sticky buttons) on your remote control...

I had the same problem on my Arris Freesat box this morning. Checked the software version and it was the latest.
Did a reboot and will check again tomorrow morning.
