That all depends on the dish size you are willing to put up. You will probably need something approaching 4m to get the BBC channels!

Can you receive the BBC and ITV channels with your present setup? If not the freesat card will make no difference at all to the BBC channels although it may enable reception of a couple of ITV1 regions. What size is your present dish?

Thanks to both of you. I have 2 dishes a 80cm and 1 that is twice as big. I receive Sky news and BBC news on both of my digiboxes, although when I switch off the my tm5400 box, the sky box says is not receiving a signal? but I can still receive the above 2 news Channels.Does this mean I just need to tune the TV and or adjust the dish.

Hi Sadie
I am in Crete too! :-)
To receive BBC channels you will need a pretty large dish. Anything between 3.2m to over 4m.
It sounds like you have about a 1.8m dish set up for Sky which is about the minimum you can use to recieve a selection of Sky channels here.

If you are recieving Sky news on both recievers then it seems like they are both connected to the bigger sky dish. Maybe one is connected to the other and this is why switching off the Technomate affects the Sky box.

Basically, if you can recieve Sky News then your dish should be aligned ok. It is just a matter of either having a card in the Sky box to recieve other channels from Sky which need a card either Freesat or Sky subscription.

Hope this helps.

Do the Technomate and Sky boxes have separate feeds from the dish or does the Technomate have a loop-through facility which then goes on to feed the Sky box?

Hi paul. Thanks for your imput. I have to switch of my skybox and to watch the Arabic channels, then turn off the Techomate box to watch sky. I had the old blue sky card. Which was very hit and miss. Five live and C5. Anyway whether you call this a "loop though" I have no idea. I have a new sky card someone told me to leave it in the box for 24 hours and it will work. A person I know here has a card which they put in the the techmate box and it works for 3-4 weeks and it has to go back in their sky box for 24 hours and then it works again.I get very fustrated with all this because I dont know enough. Anyway thanks again to you and all.

Hi Sadie

I was trying to find out how the two receivers are connected to the LNB on the satellite dish.

Each receiver needs a separate lead to the dish and the LNB needs to be multi output type (usually four) in order to supply the separate feeds. Sometimes people think that a single LNB ouput can be split into two (like a TV earial) and sometimes a receiver, as well as having a connection on the back to the LNB also has an "LNB out" socket which can be fed to another receiver. Unfortunately neither of these is particularly effective and you end up having to do exactly as you describe - switch one box off in order to use the other - amongst other things.

You need to look at the cable(s) from the dish to see where they go.

The situation with the card is no surprise. A Sky card needs to be periodically placed in a genuine Sky receiver in order to get its "stay alive" signal. About 4 - 6 weeks seems to be the most a card can go in a foreign box. At least this was the case with old blue cards; the new white cards do not seem to work in a lot of the foreign boxes htat the blue ones used to. You may not get a white carrd to work in the Tevhnomate at all.

Can someone please help?

I live in one of the most southern parts of the Peloponnese, I have a standard sky box fitted on a 1.3 meter dish with UK card.

I receive all of my package line-up (except for all BBC channels and ITV2,3&4) these channels include ITV1, ITV1+1, channel4&5 More4 etc which are found by using the "more channels" tuning facility. I have an adequate signal and a very high quality picture.

My question is the same as asked previously, can I stop using the sky card and replace with freesat. I am not interested in the channels I currently do not receive.
