I bought this Outpost Firewall because it did something with the trial version the others said they'd do but didn't.

It removed a deadly pc virus on trial, and for me that made me purchase the product.

It was just under £20 for a year's licence of updates, but it's well worth it. Because it got rid of the most annoying virus out there, a browser and pc harddrive hijacker called ABOUT BLANK!

Thank god, and Outpost, it's gone. :D Now that's what I call a Terminator!:D :D :D

I use Bullguard Firewall/antivirus on two PCs and AVG Firewall/antivirus on another, I think I favour AVG now, as it finds more on scans than Bullguard, although it is slightly more expensive.

This type of software is well worth spending money on, don't cheapskate on security software.

I tried some of the above, but it didn't remove ABOUT : BLANK. Some software say your pc is clean, when it's not really, it's just the software hasn't been updated to cope with new threats.

Outpost is constantly being updated as I am online. Some people might not like that, but this pc has never been faster, or have I had any unwated pop-ups, adware, or stuff like; nor has the browers been hacked into.

I thought my pc ws clean when I used Spybot, but still I had this ABOUT : BLANK problem, seemingly nothing would kill. Until Outpost came along and it found ABOUT : BLANK and shot it dead. It occasionally tries to enter my pc as I am online, because Outpost tells me, so I shoot it dead before it enters.

Arnie, eat yer heart out! :D

Yes, but it does only half the job (no antivirus) and is only half the product, hence why they make a pro version.:)

Get a modem/router. The hardware firewall is well worth it. ZA has had no high risk alerts since the computer has been sat behind it. Coupled with AVG it's a fairly good solution.

Yes, that is a good point L, a router affords an extra level of protection, make sure it is one with a stateful inspection Firewall though, as some of the cheaper ones are not as safe.

I used to be a big fan of Zone Alarm and have used it for at least five years. But the last six months or so I think it has gone downhill.

Nothing serious, just a few things I wouldn't expect form such a big name, for example it was freezing a laptop I was using, some hunting on the net and it turned out to be a common problem with that new release, suggesting it wasn't tested properly.

However I've just got a free licence for Zone Alarm with antivirus from my ISP, so I'll give that a go (I've never tried the anti virus version before). :)
