It looks like Hotbird-4 is heading for the graveyard orbit after 17 years of service,
http://www.n2yo.com/?s=25237 Launched 27 February 1998.

I never did feel attached to the 13e position. Probably because it was so easy to receive.

It looks like Hottie 2 is the only one operational of the first 5 now.

Its the most sought after satellite, in India.
People are using 10 ft dishes, trying to get some sort of reception.

Good choice, posting this Topic in Satellite Launches, for lack of somewhere specific, but maybe we should have a corresponding "Satellite Graveyard" section, with this Thread as a starter?

I'll draw Rolf's attention to it.

But why'd u presumed that its only bcoz of adult content. o_O
Well, to certain extent, that may also be a factor, but 13e has quality/premium channels, that too FTA, who wouldnt want abt 500 FTAs from a single satellite slot.

Because thats virtually all we ever get asked for when Indian / Pakistan members want help with fringe reception :D (Although as your internet speeds have improved over the years the number of questions has reduced dramatically)

Have a look in the Indian sub continent section - its FILLED with questions on how to get adult content! :-rofl2

Oh.. so we have a prejudiced admin here. :D
Well, to certain extent, you are correct, but correlating internet speeds, with sat hunters need for adult content is not entirely correct.
Watching it on the internet is never the same, as watching it on TV ( big screen one at that ;))

To a sat hunter, its almost like hitting jackpot, first catching fringe signals, and a tad bit adult content in that... is wht a sat hunter needs.

Not prejudiced at all- just telling it like it is - we went through a period where REN TV Russia was the holy grail as it could be picked up in northern India with reasonable sized dishes.

We set up the Indian sub continental section specifically to help our members from that area

https://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/indian-chat.549/

No-one posts there now - the tumbleweeds blow through that section daily. :(

This satellite takes a long time (if ever) to reach graveyard altitude.
Still drifting only 1° W per day, at altitude 35850 km.

Section title amended to cater for both Launches and Retirements: It might be split into two separate Sections depending upon traffic.

Intelsat 702 was my main one of interest back in '95, because of D2MAC stuff. That satellite is still in operation somewhere.

Eutelsat II F3 @ 16 east was the 1st satellite I pick up on the old 70cm Sky Analogue system approx 1993 it was easy to scan with the Pace Analogue receiver & hand moving the dish from 19.2 east I eventually found 5 satellites using this method using a felt tip to mark the positions on the pole:D

Then I moved onto a motorised 88 x 78 mesh dish in 1995 that I still use today preserved using WD40:)
