as its an android unit, we could try installing other players to see if the DVB app offers a choice of player to switch to - or make a test recording and then see how it plays back on an additional player...

The Octagon SF8008 plays 4:2:2 internally.
I think this is achieved by passing the satellite signal to Kodi installed on the SF8008 via an internal Sat to IPTV stream.

Even though the GTMedia Combo is Android rather than E2, if it has Sat to IPTV functionality it might be able to achieve the same as the SF8008 if Kodi is on there?

I’m assuming you’re referring to 4.2.2 feeds and not 4.2.0.
No I meant 4:2:0. If there was a bottleneck between the tuner and SoC there would be an issue with high bitrate 4:2:0 as well. 50Mb/s 4:2:0 requires the same bandwidth as 50Mb/s 4:2:2.

I’m not near the Combo at the moment but has anyone tried to install GT Media’s own app GT Share. I did this on my own home spun ATV box (installed the APK directly as I run a rooted version of Android which gladly doesn’t have Google Playstore and all its trappings thankfully) with the V8 UHD obviously as it doesn’t play 4.2.2 direct and was very satisfied with solid 4.2.2 playback. You can optimise GT Share quite easily.

I think the Al Forat channel (10.0E, 10993V) might offer a test for the Combo?
However, I have not checked it lately so things may have changed.
Thanks and yes, it's there and locks but only a 12% quality on this current setup.

Mind you it's raining heavily at the moment so I will try again tomorrow.

Al Forat fine here. 79% and it’s raining too. Screen cap from the V8 UHD fed to GT Share on the Android board.

What’s the highest bitrate feed you have had success with on the android board? Have you ever tried any 50fps sports feeds on it?

Not yet. I’m doing this in between jobs so as soon as I’ve a bit more free time I’ll get stuck into it a bit more. I’ve nearly completed compiling an Android version optimised for this setup so hopefully I’ll have that done soon to. For anyone interested in compiling Android for their own setup this is a good starting point

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
I've seen "Auto BISS" shown on some of the screenshots - can someone say how that might work (don't worry, not asking for BISS sources or codes or anything like that)!!

It activates and displays the search automatically

Not sure if this is of any interest to anybody but the GTMedia Combo does not seem to like cheapo Chinese HDMI splitters.

It is OK with pass through type capture devices where the output from the Combo is sent to a capture device and also passed out of the capture device to a TV.
However, with a plain "1 IN - 2 OUT" HDMI splitter it seems to play up.

Admittedly, I tested it with a cheap Chinese junkster HDMI splitter but with the same splitter the GTMedia v8 UHD worked perfectly.

Thx - by that I'm guessing that it searches a database of known BISS codes that is part of the installed f/w until it finds one that works (or that none work!) -?????

It might be something to do with the HDCP permission.

Does the items forward of the splitter demand power via Pin 18 from the receiver ?

No, the GTMedia Combo does not have the capacity to store the trillions of permutations for a biss code.

There is a small internal storage capacity for a few hundred, perhaps a thousand or so.
All permutations of the 1st three characters alone gets you up to 4096 different options which is probably pushing the capacity of the internal storage.

I am not sure of the power requirements forward from the splitter. However, the splitter I tested uses 5V power from a USB port on a PC so it can probably push forward some juice?
Forward from the splitter is a capture device and a TV.

All works OK with the GTMedia v8 UHD receiver, it is the GTMedia Combo that does not want to play nice.

It would be beneficial to know the history behind the limitations and how it affects the receiver.

There’s a 422 FTA crufts feed on 3W 11089 V 30000 3/5 if anybody wants to test the combo’s limits.

Surprisingly my phone is playing it ok ish, not super smooth but watchable.

Enigma2 gives it a bit rate of 51 Mb/s

The limiting factor is the size of the file stored in the Combo that holds the keys.
I assume this file has to be kept within a certain size due to receiver memory constraints and firmware for the system files.

The storage capability to hold all permutations of a biss key is way beyond the specs of the Combo, hence its need to request Poop from a remote location.

be great if you could use a usb stick with nice bit of GB on it and would cater for 100,s of thousands of permutations.but wishful thinking lol
