Only slightly - it's based on the initial advertising guff from Nov 22nd 2021

The intial post of the topic reflects the advertising used by some sellers online, it is not misleading.
There is no inference as to how capable it is with 4:2:2, and the fact remains that it can provide some 4:2:2 pictures.

I still have one for sale 'ere if any toby wants to shove a bullseye into my paw.

My point to anyone who wants to clear H264 4:2:2 feeds is that whilst your normal run of the mill e2 box will find the signal but not display the picture, connecting to that stream using the webif function (streamlined into the free VU+app) on a Apple 4K box will clear the picture once you have the requisite high speed HDMI cable. The Apple 4K TV boxes after all have a specific HDR menu to display Chroma 4:2:2, so it no surprise that they can display the content of 422 stream from an e2 box on the same network.

Just goes to show that you don't need pro broadcast gear like the MediaKind receivers to access these feeds.

Any decent DVB card such as those produced by TBS can display 4:2:2 via EBSPro direct to VLC or by using EBSPro/VLC as an interface for something like NDI to capture the pictures and stream them.

Thought Id pipe Eurovision into the box to see how it handles a 4:2:2 feed at a silly bitrate

It's not watchable but i was expecting it to be far worse!

Thank you for uploading the video.

I think the useful thing about the Combo and 4:2:2 is that it can allow the user to see what the content is for some of these feeds.
Not everyone has a DVB card or an E2 receiver. For small wad the combo can provide an opportunity to check out some 4:2:2 stuff.

Not too bad as you say and have seen worse. :Y
At the bottom left of menu screen, if you see a higher frame rate of 8 fps or higher (unlikely at the moment) then playback is usable to see what's going on for a while - if it's
content that really floats people's boat then go to the other options of viewing 422 fluently with other receivers / streaming etc etc

Yup agree, to be fair something cheap like a zgemma box will get you good fluid 4:2:2 playback via VLC on a reasonable PC. Not crazy expensive for sure.

Much Eurovision content in the past few years has been unwatchable.

And a 4:2:2 capable receiver won’t improve that content either. Maybe the video breakup in the player could be seen as a blessing in disguise

Thinking of getting one of these for a bit of play with S2x blindscanning mainly, anybody got any advice on the best place to buy from? Been looking on the auction site, but seem to be quite a diverse price range :-ohmy Seems to be no UK stockists?

TIA, Dave.

Oh, yes. The GT Combo is very poor (unwatchable) at playing the ABC feeds here in the US. The SF8008 streamed to VLC easily plays them flawlessly. I like the little GT Combo, but at the present time its 4:2:2 support in particular is disappointing.

Rempfer I need your help can I private message you or email me at ***********@*********.com thanks

A quick search at lunchtime and it looks like there are very few boxes like this GTCombo.

Just this one, the iView (though I'm unsure if '4k' is actually a feature or just a branding exercise)

There is one DVB-S2X receiver

and one other Android HD satellite receiver from 2017/8, though again not a combo.

So, are there any others members know about ? If so it might just be worth adding an Android section to the forum list to prevent confusion to members contemplating parting with their hard earned money.
