The internet went down at our house last night and my wife and I had to talk to each other.

I was amazed to discover that she no longer worked at Woolworth's.

WOW ...Woolworth's I haven't heard that name since they went out of business in "97", they had a great lunch counter, with REAL malted mike shakes, makes my mouth water thinking about them......Where's the ice cream..??

Obviously you're a youngster.

Woolworths was founded in Pennsylvania by Frank W Woolworth. He opened his first shop in the UK in Liverpool and eventually the British chain was bought out from its American parent and was listed on the UK stock market. It was originally called FW Woolworth & Co but this was streamlined to just Woolworths in later years.

It was known informally as Woolies but you had to be careful as there was (possibly still is) a company of the same (or similar - Woollies? Woolly's?) name that sold trim and carpets for automotive purposes.
