Hi newbie here so bare with me.
I'm currently in process of installing irs system for a friend, i work for sky so have the knowledge, but when coming to multiswitches etc, my knowledge is limited.
Now what is needed is a system to transmit sky +, terr and cctv to eight rooms.
I have dish, quattro, 5x16 multiswitch (labgear ms516e).
what has been done so far
1)i have 5 drop cables going from dish location to under stairs (distance <20) 4 for quattro, 1 for terr.
2) then i have 2 coax's going to each of the 8 rooms 16 in total.
3) one cctv has been installed
My questions.
a) how do i add a cctv system to my multiswitch and what products are needed?
b) what kind of triplex plates are needed so that sky+, terr and cctv can be split to be viewed on tv.
c) do i need a modulator for cctv and were in system and how is this connected?
d) have i missed any important equipment out, if so please state.
Sorry i hope this makes sense, beening doing sky for a few years now but first time i had to get to grips with this system and ive heard that adding cctv just complicates things, would be most appriecated for all your views as my brain starting to hurt :-ohcrap

My best advice would be to leave the job for a professional IRS installer with the correct analyser, too many pitfalls for the amateur.

Bit harsh there SM. I've installed my multiswitch setup in France without specialist equipment. I accept that it's probably not set to its optimum but having a strong signal helps no end.

I hope that when you fed the cables through from the roof that you marked each one so that you can identify which is which at either end. There is usually a colour code marked on the multiswitch but anything will do. I used one of the outputs on the quad directly to a Digibox to set the LNB alignment and then connected all the cables as required to the LNB (Low V, Low H, High V, High H). At the other end the cables went to the requisite ports on the multiswitch. This is where marking of the cables is essential.

As it's for a friend you don't have to worry about the final 10% but you'l probably use your alignment meter to get things right. There's adjustment on the multiswitch to set the gain and this is where an analyser is used. I left mine untouched at, I think, half way.

With regards to the camera this is something I've not done but I would imagine that you'l have to get a modulator to convert the video (and sound?) to RF. Make sure that you choose a channel that's free of course.
I would then feed this into a splitter with the terrestrial aerial feed to combine the feeds and then into the terrestrial input port on the multiswitch. The modulator will be analogue of course, not a problem for you yet but we've gone digital up here and analogue channels are up in the 400's on my TV.

Finally, you don't need triplexer plates for a satellite PVR, you need quadplexer plates!

Thank you paulr for your comments, yes all cables have been marked as i knew how much of a pain this would be, that has made it much clearer for myself, amateur or not, you don't know unless you try.
could you point me in the direction of a website etc for a modulator that would be suitable for this system.
Thank you again for your tips they will come in handy and if i do have any problems i be sure to post on here soon for a professional answer many thanks

Well, firstly I would see whether one of the forum advertisers do one. They support us so why not support them!
