Hi all,

a number of us are attempting to complete our HTPC systems with OTA epg direct from the satellite/cable provider via the tuner.

The majority of us are in Australia and are having difficulty finding a solution. We know of E2_loadepg for enigma boxes that access the OpenTV stream and want something similar for Windows 7 media center PC's.

I thought this might be the place to ask this question as Sky is pretty much the same as Foxtel here.

Does anyone know of a solution to our dilemma or know someplace where we could find the answers we want?

Cheers to all

TB

Hello

Welcome to the forum tbergman

Well in this part of the globe the only way to access sky with a non sky stb is using Linux O/S and even then it is only 48 hour EPG obtainable, hence it is unlikely that a Windoze solution is available but you never know someone may have played around with something similar on a media centre. Someone may at least be able to suggest something or point you in the right direction

I'm able to grab 7 days EPG data from the UK "OpenTV stream", using WeekEPG on my TM600. pretty sure E2_LoadEPG and all plugins based on it grab 7 days aswell.

@tbergman
sorry not sure about how to get data on HTPC.

Thanks for responding Topper and ToneDef.

Don't know of anyway to get E2_loadepg to work in a VM perhaps?

Can i suggest you take a look at gbpvr.com. That's a Windoze media centre and the guy who writes it is in NZ so will have better localised knowledge.

Thanks, I'll do that.

But the EPG services for Sky NZ and Foxtel AU are different. NZ uses MHEG5 and AU uses OpenTV.

Even if you manage to find a version LoadEPG thats been compiled for use on an Intel based chip. How are you going to get your media centre to read the epg.dat file it generates?

Wouldn't it make more sense to download a pre made EPG file rather than have your HTPC's tuner tied up while its downloading the data over the air? This is what I do on my Enigma2 box. It also saves all the processing involved in creating an EPG file from the OTA data.

I suggest you take a look at XMLTV.

I believe there are XMLTV based solutions for Windows Media Centre. I haven't explored this so cant be of any more help.

Take a look here....

Thanks Compufunk,

We are currently using prepared xmltv.xml files from oztivo using epgstream and using shepherd for data scraped from the web. What we're looking at doing is having the data directly drawn from the provider for accuracy and reliability. And some of us just want to prove it can be done.

Most of us have multiple tuner access, so tying up a tuner at 3am for a short time is not an issue.
