Hi all, live in France and want UK FTA channels, bought this decoder and was told by shop assistant that I could receive the FTA UK channels, however we have just had in our Electricien to realign our satellite dish and he set it to 28.2E Astra 2, but all channels we get (and they are lots) are german and others, but NO UK FTA channels, help needed pls, thank you!!!

Get your "electrician" back ..........

He's aligned the dish to Astra 1 at 19.2E, not to Astra 2 at 28.2E.

Or just forget him/her and do it yourself ..... just needs to go 9 degrees further towards the east and to have the elevation lowered a couple of degrees.

.... but it does show the name of ASTRA 2 when we try and search and it has good strength and quality, are you sure?

Positive.

The Receiver does not know where the Dish is aligned to and you are just looking at a data table that happens to be labelled 28.2E (or similar). If you scan the table labelled 28E and you are pointing at 19.2E (which you are ...), as similar frequencies and other parameters are used on various Satellites, you will get results - but they will be 19.2E Channels.

This is an all too common mistake and you have my word that the dish is aligned to 19.2E.

Select 19.2E and scan, if you wish.

Select 13E and scan, if you wish.

But you will still get only German stuff from 19.2E.

have had the electrician back and he put the arial back in this little box and told us again that the satellite is on the 28.2E..... then he did do lots of checks etc. and now he just cannot do it at all and we are referred to get in someone else...... it is just so frustrating, did another search on the astra 2 and it comes of course with all the german channels again...... oh I got so excited this morning, thought I could be watching some UK tv again..... thanks again for your help!!!!!!

Believe me, your frustration will be assuaged far more quickly if you have a go at alignment yourself. It just is not difficult (for what you need to achieve, at least!)

The electrician is clearly not familiar with Astra 2 and quite possibly does not appreciate that Astra 1 and 2 are entirely different positions.

A great deal of help is already in print in guides in this forum and a bit of common sense and a bit of patience will give you a great deal of satisfaction when you get it sorted out :)
