Firstly, just want to say HI to all the forum members.

Now here is my problem.

Just had house renovated. Was told by a friend of mine to fit all cables into wall while house was been done. ( which I thought sensible ) He recommended some stuff but it does not work the way I wanted it to.

I have 8 rooms with tv capabilities. I have 3 cables to each room. 1 cable goes to single F type outlet for FREESAT HD ( 8 rooms) then I have 2 cables going to quadplex, labgear faceplates. Supposedly 3 signals down 1 cable ( 1 sat, TV, & DAB ) then 2nd cable is SAT 2 ( for sky +) So far so good.

This is where its confusing.

Got an 8 way Labgear Loftbox with inputs for LNB 1, LNB 2, TV, DAB etc etc. On outgoing side got 8 way distribution ( on loftbox) which does TV, DAB, CCTV etc then I have TRIPLEX output and LNB2 output.

Now, He intended originally to take cable from dish to DAB input and send out via 8 ways on box down to the FREESAT faceplates. ( seems viable)

LNB 1 & 2 inputs for SKY+ and TV into UHF. These a little more difficult. In theory the TV & LNB1 should go down the triplex and LNB2 on its own. However there is only 1 output for each on box.

So to cure the problem, he said to get 2x 8 way splitters and go from output triplex to 1 splitter then to each of the 8 points, then output lnb2 to splitter then to other 8 points. ( ideally this would work - BUT)

Once you plug in more than 2 outputs onto the splitter, they all go off!!!

Currently, I have 6 rooms with no TV at all and 2 rooms with connected directly to LNB on dish ( quad) and no FREESAT.

Anyone any idea how I can get this to work? re channeling walls to put extra cables in really is not an option.

I have no idea what they do but would it work if the splitters were changed for multiswitches???

If anyone has any ideas please post, I would be very grateful as I have emailed labgear, taylor bros and televes and not had a single reply.

If you can recommend any parts that will do the job please let me know.

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

James :-doh2

Using a 5 in 16 out multiswitch should sort it, together with a quattro LNB and a suitable dish.(Not minidish)

DAB and UHF aerials can be fed in also.

Thanks for the reply Robbo.

Forgive the ignorance but how does this get wired up and why would I need a quattro LNB?

Would I still need the triplex output from the loftbox? Or is this redundant as far as the sky+ is concerned?

Where can I get what I need from.

Again sorry for ignorance but I don't know how this all works.

Many thanks

James

You need a direct connection to the LNB from each receiver (and a S_y/Freesat box in every room) if you want maximum flexibility or S_y+ needs 2 cables because it has 2 tuners.
A Quattro LNB has 4 outputs each one dedicated to High band horizontal, Hi vertical, LO H and Lo V respectively. it is designed to work with multiswitches to give a dedicated connection to multiple rooms while only requiring 4 cables running to the LNB

The loft box is designed to feed the signal into a satellite receiver and for the UHF output from that receiver to then be redistributed to all the other points, so if you had say a recorder in the lounge you could feed the output from that back to the loftbox so you could watch recordings in any of the other rooms

If anyone needs to see a PDF of what a loftbox does, here's the Global illustration. _http://www.tvlink.co.uk/downloads/185138500_LB.pdf

Yes, if you want a sat receiver in each room, a multiswitch is needed.

For a 5 x16 each of the 16 outputs would behave just like a single LNB connection wise.

I have only ever used a switch for satellite only, but the lower frequencies can also be fed in, and separated using the appropriate faceplates.

The loftboxes are fine for what they do.

Basically they route the signal from the satellite dish to a $ly receiver (two downleads for $ly + or HD) and take the output from the box to feed around the house so it can be viewed on other TVs. It also distributes the terrestrial TV signal from the normal aerial and (I think) provides a return path for any magic eye signals to $ly receiver. I think some loftboxes can also take the output from a VCR and mix that in as well.

It CANNOT supply independant signals for $ly receivers in many rooms. As others have said, you need a Multiswitch for that.

Thanks guys. I think I got the jist of it now. Seems awfully complicated!

Whats the difference between quad and quattro? Someone mentioned 4 cables from a quattro, doesnt the quad do 4 as well? Is there a reason why I should change quad to quattro? Or will it work with the quad?:-doh2

many thanks

A quad gives you four fully functioning universal frequency lnb outputs, each of which is capable of running an stb.

A quattro also has four outputs, which consist of vertical high band, vertical low band, horizontal highband, horizontal lowband, all four when combined cover the same frequency range as a universal lnb
