Want advice on buying a hd satelite reciever
My Location

Hi, im new to this forum and actually new to the Hd Satelite Recievers aswell, what i want to no to start of with, i have looked at 3 HD Sat recievers, 1st being a Fortec Passion from Maplins, 2nd a Pace Hd DS810XE And 3rd a Humax HDCI 2000 !!!!

Can anybody give me advice on which one is best, i have noticed the Pace is good value on their website at the moment, but have been reading the forums and have noticed people are having problems with Cams on the Pace !!! what are cams? anyway and which cam are compatable with each of the above recievers?

Also i have already a Basic Sky set up and obviously have the sky dish and have been told i can get one of theese above and also link the new HD Reciever via a fly lead to the Sky Reciever and enjoy the best of both worlds, is that true, Bassically i just cant wait to watch Hd Teli even though there arnt many hd channels at the moment, just want to get the most of my new HD Teli,

Anyway any help Please regarding the above i would realy appreciate it as i think this is the way to go.

Hope to hear soon and thankyou from Brian

I have the Humax and Passion, personally I find the Humax gives a better HD picture on my Sony Bravia. Other people with different TV's find the opposite, so I suppose it will depend on your particular setup.

Cams - a conditional access module that plugs into a slot in your STB that, when programmed with certain files, allows you to watch channels other than the free to air ones.

Plenty of info in the cam section of this forum.

I find the Humax is easier in 'initialising' a cam (accepting the cam's files) than my Passion, but then again it may just be my box.

If you're looking for HD channels other than BBC HD, you need to think about installing another dish to receive these.

It all depends on your budget for an HD receiver.
A lot of members will tell you that they have been waiting for the launch of the Dreambox 8000S (supposed to be an HD). This week someone posted a date this month.
The bad news is that the price mentioned is ~ 600 pounds.
You will need to point to several satellites, probably best with a motor.
