Good morning all. Having been unable to fix the 'Missing DSF' on 19.2 analogue, my very understanding partner has decided to get me a Topfield for my birthday. Its arriving tomorrow (Tues 29 Jan!). Mt problem now is:

How do I go about setting up my digital and my analogue receivers together? I want to keep the analogue one (single tuner 36v w/ positioner), for Eurosport in English! (Moto GP, WRC and other FREE motorsport!) to move the dish, and use the Topfield for everything else!

Do I LNB loop-through from Digital to Analogue, then scart to TV? Do I move the dish then turn analogue unit off then turn on Digital? I don't want to use a V-box!

Hellllpppp!!

Hi,
You could loop through, and do like you say, or you could fit a twin LNB, and run a separate cable to each receiver.

Also I think there was a thread on here saying that the end of the analogue transmissions had beem announced ( Haven't had chance to read yet), so that may be relevant.

Good morning NDexter,

I understand from your post and system that you have a a single LNB.
Life would have been a lot easier if you have twin LNB and run two coaxial cables to the LNB input of each receiver: Digital and analogue as you can have them both on so that you can watch one channel and record another.
With a single LNB you must switch off the digital receiver in order to make the analogue take control of the LNB.
But if you decide to leave things as they are, you can use the loopthrough in the Topfield digital receiver (just make sure that it has this function) and then connect a short cable between the loopthrough output to the analogue LNB input.
If the Topfield doesn't have a loopthrough, then use a special part which has an input (LNB coaxial cable) and two outputs:
Digital output goes to Topfield
Analogue output goes to the analogue receiver.

If both receivers have a Scart connector, then connect the respective outputs to the AV inputs in your TV.
If your TV has one AV input, then you can use the RF output from the Analogue or the digital receiver to the TV aerial input (the signal would not be as good as with AV) or use an AV switch (a manual one means that you would have to do a bit of exercise while watching).
Another solution is to use an AV receiver, if you have one.
Hope that this covers everything. If I have missed something, post again.
Good luck :)

Many thanks for that - Oh, if life were only that simple! The reason I’m in this position is because my analogue receiver suddenly lost DFS (F1 free training), after the LNB rainshield perished. I only ever thought to replace that with another single LNB as my dish is motorised.

Question - does a twin LNB not contain 2 LNBs side-by-side, (one of which must be optimal, and the other sub-optimal because of the physical offset)? Or do you mean dual-output (single LNB ‘feedhorn’ but 2 outputs)? If the former, then tuning on for one will yield poor results for the other if I were to “watch one channel and record another”?

I must admit - a retailer said I mustn’t have both units on at the same time as it would damage one or both units! Or is this like the urban myth that if you type “Google” into Google the interweb goes into meltdown :-)

In answer to the other points, The Topfield has 2 tuners, 2 inputs and 2 outputs. I also have a Vivanco SBV-99EX(?) scart switcher which, despite the remote control, still means regular exercise back and forth!

Tell me, Mr Dish, what is an AV receiver? The ones I have seen for home cinema do not have scart/multiple scart sockets!? It would certainly be an option over the Vivanco thingy!!

Thanks again for your advice - past and future!

Hello NDexter,
I will leave the parts regarding the motor to a more experienced member.
Regarding the other points
1 - Since the Topfield has 2 tuners, then I would certainly use a triple LNB if this exists or a quad and run 3 cables 2 for the digital receiver and 1 to the analogue.

2 - I will never use loopthrough if I can help it as if there is a risk to the LNB or the receivers, then I will not take that risk.
For me to change the LNB is a very costly matter as it is situated at roof top and I need a specialist to come and replace it if it becomes damaged.
For members who can change it easily, this might not be such a big thing.

3 - AV receiver is used for home cinema and they should have several video and audio inputs and outputs, usually RCA connectors and not Scart.
You can always use a scart-RCA cable to connect to it from your receivers.
Mine has a 5 video inputs and it makes life a lot easier switching between various boxes.
Good Luck
