ITV is to show live cricket for the first time since the 1970s after securing the rights to broadcast the Indian Premier League.


The channel has paid a 'nominal sum' to broadcast 59 of the Twenty20 tournament's 60 matches live on its ITV4 digital channel.

The coverage will be fronted by presenter Matt Smith and Bollywood actress Mandira Bedi, and will begin on March 12.

The footage will be provided by Sony and streamed live on YouTube.

Saw this in my Daily Torygraph yesterday, too: Good news for now, and all credit to ITV for picking up the sole UK Broadcasting Rights previously held by Setanta (whoever they were!).

Now we have to hope that the renewed efficiency drive by Auntie doesn't put the mockers on the mooted possibility of FTA Ashes in future years.
